What detector ?

Hello seeing you asked in this forum I assume you are looking for a Minelab. I am no expert...basically clueless when it comes to Minelab products. I just crossed over purchasing an Explorer se. I also own a Whites dfx, which I worked very hard with for over a year and still have. I think you should read thru some of the posts and different forums, stop at the Minelab homesite. Also do a search on each model...maybe look at the x-terra models....Hopefully you get a few responses here also good luck!

Thanks for the reply Gregg,

Can I ask how are you getting to grips with the Explorer se is it quite easy to learn ? I have a coinstrike at the moment but am thinking of getting either an Xterra 70 or the Explorer se any help would be great.

We are having the worst winter here! It has snowed 26 times since December 1st! Usually we have about 8 or 9 snowfalls by now. So i have only been out one time with the se this year and 6 times with the dfx. So it would be very hard to give you any true opinion. What I noticed right away with the se though...is the solid construction, also I have received a bunch of tips in e-mail and private messages to help...Just can't get out! We are getting hit with 5 to 9 inches of snow tonight...the second time in less than a week with over 5 inches of snow...so for me..probably no real use till March... The time I did get out, the ground was frozen past a few inches and it was coming out in chunks...If you go to Minelabs site and request a catalog they will also send out a video with the X-terra on it...good luck!

Thanks for your honesty Gregg, Were are you the North Pole ? Ha Ha !!

Hope the weather breaks for you some time soon.

I have been having a look around the Web and come across this website http://www.minelabowners.com/forum/index.php Not sure if you have seen it ?

I think I might go for the SE as it makes more sense to me
:super:

Thanks yes I have seen that site...right now in the middle of 8-12 inch snow storm....most snow I remember in a long time...27th snow since December here in Illinois... I like the challenge of the se...simple is not what I was looking for...

Hi Onpoint, Since you already have experience with a coinstrike, then if it was me , I would go with the SE. It has a better resell value , and after the first few hours with it , it will come together pretty quick. I bought my first minelab , an EX II in dec. 07 and its worth every penny I spent on it. Its not as hard to use as everyone makes it out to be, in my opinion, .But if you are a novice , then it may take a little while to figure out. The best advice I could give is to use it at the cleanest places you know of , till you get used to the sounds it makes. It really sounds intimidating in dense trash , but it doesn't take long to figure it out. A lot of the europeans are using the explorers , and swear by them. I like mine. Oh , I would also like to add that the exp is multi freq. with tons of coils, and the 70 only has a few coils that are dedicated to one freq. each only, I think, so not as versatile... HH...

Many thanks for your input LaDigger, I think I am going to go with the SE, There are so many more advantages with it like coils as you just mentioned, I agree with you also about price drop if I ever decided to sell ( which is unlikely I'm hooked )

Lucky you Gregg I wish I was there in the States this country has gone to the Dog's as far as I'm concerned, Looks like I might be moving soon to Wales as the Mrs. wants to move nearer to her family, I don't blame her.
Well I wish you LUCK catch up again soon.:beers:

Gregg, if you do decide to go with the Explorer, as soon as the discretionary money will allow, get a Sunray probe for it and a 8" coil. I am a newbie with the SE also, and after I added those two options the learning curve got significantly less steep. The Sunray 8" makes the machine feel better balanced. I also got a Swingy Thingy and this seemingly heavy detector is a breeze with that accessory. Enjoy! Regards!

can any one tell me which detector to buy ? the sovorign or the explore se i want the one that is truely the deepest on coins and rings land and beach but mostly land ..thank you

I would say it's a personal choice, If you are good at learning new technology I would go for the SE myself.

The SE will have more features than the Sov and should do better in trash, provided you take the time to learn it well. There are some that think the Sov is deeper, some say Explorer. I don't know because I haven't owned a Sov. If you can try them out before buying and then make up your mind. The Sov is a very good detector from most reports. Money being no object, I would go with the Explorer. If you consider buying used, you can save some money and you could get an Explorer 2 for a good price.
