My Excalibur is going back in for repair a second time. I only hunt fresh water. Ground mineralization is not an issue

If you were going to replace your Excalibur what other water machine would you choose and why?

Jim

if i was only doing fresh water, i would be tempted to get a tesoro, years ago i did very well with a silver turtle, if anyone can remember them. tesoros have always done well in the uk,

Mann, I Feel for You on the loss Of your Excal.....Hope they get it back to you fast and 100%.....I'm looking for Another PI as a backup to my excals {Maybe Garrett infininum} Why? Had a Whites Treasure master years ago, never had much luck..would like another shot with a PI....Good Luck...Obn

I am leaning towards Tesoro. The White's state they are only waterproof to 25'. I dive so that's tempting fate. I also reviewed the HH and the Infinium. Have a Fisher 1280 so don't partiuclarly want another Fisher. Would like to try something else for awhile. Thanks for all the input and wish others would chime in what their thoughts and experiences are. Jim

Jim,
If you are hooked on discriminate, aTigerShark or your Excal. I use White's PI machines, three of them. Also have a TigerShark for really bad trash and a SandShark with a 7" coil.
Nothing like being ready for what ever you come across.
Bill

Did I read the Tigershark manual correctly? You have to adjust the volume, sesitivity, and threshold with controls INSIDE the housing...Meaning you can't ajust those settings while in the water and conditions change? Everything looked really promising for the Tesoro until I read that. Please tell me I'm wrong or with that machine it's an irrelevant feature. Jim

Excal or CZ-20/CZ-21.

Yes ... you are right about the internal adjustments on a Tiger Shark.

Have you considered a HeadHunter wader ... or if you dive ... the HeadHunter Diver ... I have heard nothing but good about them.
You can also buy a watertight lexan box and some cable clams and waterproof a Sovereign for water hunting.

I replaced both my Excals with a Whites BHID 300 & a Dual Field PI, have not regretted the change; both Whites machines get me Gold and the Canadian clad at extreme depths, deeper than I could with my Excals and a whole lot lighter to use once I converted both over to staright rods and hip mounted them. I hunt fresh water mainly with a couple trips to the ocean down south when its -35 celcius up here in Canada. Good Luck with whatever you choose. H.H.

Waterman...Maybe you have some info I didn't see. But what I saw said the White's machines are only good to 25'. I dive, rarely deeper than 25', but if what I read was accurate it's seem like I'd be pushing the water tight integrity of the unit. If I'm in error, then please educate me as I think White's is a good company...Just like Garrett and Tesoro. Jim

Yes, the BHID 300 is rated to 25 feet and the Dual Field to 100 feet. Just my opinion, if you are going to dive with tank(s) I would go with a detector with an 8" coil because the larger coils will probably pick up your tank(s) if you are using a short rod for diving. Good Luck, you may need two :) one for diving and one for wading with depth capability.

I have several water machines. Excal 800, whites PI pro, 1280, seahunter mark 2. I hunt fresh water only with the once a year trip to MB. I use the excal and seahunter 99% of the time. The seahunter is a machine you dont hear too much hype about, but let me tell you, it would be a tough decision as to which one to give up between the garrett and the excal. I dig mostly everything anyway, it helps me really learn my machines so the pi doesn't bother me. If you can, borrow a seahunter and give it a spin. I think you will be pleasantly surprised
