What Detector to Buy???

Pepa

New member
I narrowed it down to these three. Omega, AT Pro, and Whites Mx5. Live in Maryland, hunt coins and jewelry, Have mild soil, don't do water hunting, but maybe occasional beach, 68 years young. and have detected for 8 years with the ace 250. Give me some opinions but only about these three. ( I 'm suffering already from information overload). I know the Mx5 is new but I like what I read about it. I need information about true depth in mild soil on lets say dimes and quarters. Also depth on gold rings in the ground. I know there is a lot of knowledge out there so please help me decide.

Since you have 8 years experience with Garrett why not go for the AT Pro. A fine machine with awesome abilities plus it's water proof..
Read the At Pro forum for some real results posts..........

If you still have the Ace250, Garrett has a trade-in policy for any old Garrett detector.
I traded in my 30 yr. old Garrett for an ATPro. Only cost me $400 and it was factory fresh.
You might want to contact them and check it out.

I really like the auto gb, notch and tone features on my Omega, however EMI issues continue to plague me at most of the places I hunt and I know others that own or have owned the machine have the same issues so depending on where you hunt one of the other machines might be a better choice.

Thanks, ironsight I didn't know that. But it would be worth hanging on to for the grand kids to use for times they tag along.
Also I have a question for diggingLa Cant you turn down the sensitivity when the EMI is high with the Omega? What depth can you get if you run it at 60- 70%
Thanks to both of you for your replies

Yes you can and thats what I do. I think the max sensitivity setting on the Omega is 90 so as you can see I'm normally hunting with it around 60-65%. Not sure on the max depth with it at the level of sensitivity as I've never dug anything deeper than 4 or 5 inches with it. My concern is in those places that I have to turn it so far down is that I may be missing some deeper targets. So for now I'm going to use it to hunt large open soccerr fields with the 13" Ultimate coil I got at Christmas, and all the other spots I hunt I'll either use my Cibola or X-Terra 705.

Hhmmm can't find the edit button :( so anyways for 90% of the places I've used the Omega I have to turn the sensitivity down to 56/58, the Cibola I normally can run at 9/10 sensitivity and sometimes over into the orange area, the 2 hunts with the xterra the sensitivity has been set to 25 (max is 2:geek:.

If you have been using the G 250 for 8 years, Why not stick with what you know. Get the ATPRO. A darn good steep up. You already know the tones. You know how to use it. Plus it is water proof.
Hunt in the rain or in the water.. Stick with what you know. You will be much more happy.. Good luck... KEN

Go with the Pro. Yes, you can trade your existing garrett in
if it's in decent shape for any of Garretts detectors. Just call
Garrett Customer service, and they will give you instructions
on how to go about it.
