All Metal in the Coin & Jewelry Mode on a nickle at 16" w/ sens set at Max. 30, in the air, with the stock coil ?? WOW is right!! Seems I remember that the Prospecting Mode will not even get that depth on a nickle in the air with my 70. That seems WAY too deep, or is the new 705 deeper than the 70 ??

You should be getting about the same depth with the same coil.

As you know, air tests - to determine max detection depth - are pretty much meaningless as ground, even benign, greatly affects what is USABLE sensitivity. You can get 24" on a quarter with an XLT but with the AC Sensitivity and Preamp Gain maxed out, you could never use that in the field . . . . . does make a good selling point to show someone in the shop however.

I think you will see that there are some software changes to the 705 that makes it play better in certain ground conditions and the GB offset does allow you to run with a positive or negative offset which improves performance in real bad ground but detection depth was not one of the features that was enhanced in the 705 vs the 70

Andy when you say bad ground would that include wet sand at the ocean? Im in NJ so you probably know our beaches.

I had a 70 and sold it, great in the dry sand but not to deep in the wet sand.

Wondering where the improvements on the 705 were intended for?

Thanks,
Neil

Bury that coin at 16" deep and see what you get.
