what coil to learn with X-70

beer can hunter

New member
Hi I'm new to this metal hunting and my first unit it is the x-70 and i have 3 coils two are the 9" concentric 3KHz and the 7.5KHz and the 5x10 DD 18.75KHz (Ron at Dixie fixed me up):clapping:.What coil is best to learn with so far i have been hunting in the HOT woods where there was some towns in the min 1800's with lot's of beer can's and oilfields trash......and stuff (south Arkansas)and in some cleaner areas. what coil is for what ???i am after coins and artifacts and other net stuff i just need a coil for dummies class

I would stay with the stock 7.5Khz coil. Learn how that coil performs and you will be better at judging how the other coils perform. I've had good success with the 7.5Khz coil. It also pinpoints well in trash. Conductive trash will always be a problem, but learning what most of it sounds like, and how the ID meter responds with help you avoid a lot of it. Good hunting, David@Dixie

Thanks DavidI will slow down with 7.5Khz coiland learn the x-70 and read all i can about it............just getting stared and my head is spinning

The stock coil is my "go-to" coil. The accessory coils each have specific applications. But for learning the detector and general THing, of all the coils available todate, I like the 9-inch, 7 .5 kHz concentric coil. HH Randy

Same here, beer can hunter:spin:

Thank goodness for this forum and an Owner's Manual that is really an owners manual, not just a quick start guide.

I began a year ago with basic detectors, and glad I did. Most of the terminology I'm studying now, I understand. Just a matter of taking my time and learning the X70 one step at at time.

Thanks to the experts here who take time to help us new ML owners get off on the right foot:clapping:
