What Coil for Etrac

I wanted to cover more ground so I bought a NEL Tornado. Well the NEL after 3 days did not work out. Don't get me wrong it works great, even more quiet than the stock, but it seems my ground is more trashy than I thought. My ID was constantly off and I started running my Pinpointer after every target and constantly found nails and small iron. Looks like the NEL is too big for my ground. It is now for sale. I know now I need to go smaller, Question is what coil. I am considering a Coiltek 10X5. The real small 5" is too small for me. OPINIONS!!!

If you are considering a medium size coil like a 5 x 10 , the NEL Sharpshooter is a terrific coil...makes an etrac seem faster. Inexpensive in comparison with a two year warranty which beats the Detech/SEFs. The only drawback is the heavy duty coiling on the heavy duty cord.

I've always had good luck from coiltec. Just bought this one. When I bought my other E-Trac this wk. Good depth good separation. Target IDs are bang on. Never had any experience with the other coils mentioned.

That looks like the one I bought. You say you get good depth with that Coil?

I haven't had a chance to get out with this one yet. I had the older one tan color and not water proof. This is the updated one that's water proof and better windings. The older one I have dug dimes at seven inches. Dug a walker around the 6 inch mark. It had a nail laying right beside it.

When I really REALLY started paying attention to how much "stuff" is in the ground, especially homesites and public parks,I couldn't wrap my head around it. Like, running very low sensitivity and getting signals just non-stop, 3-4 targets per sweep a lot of times. THAT is one of the things that turned me on to a machine with multiple tones,it was needed. Imagine what's BELOW all those signals....makes me cringe.
I think I stated before but I'll say it again...I use a Sunray X-8. Beautiful, well constructed, dead nuts on in every aspect,deep...and expensive. I imagine others work pretty well too. Can't wait to see how you do with one of them! Good luck...

IdxMonster how is the x8 in trash? Does it get good separation and depth? The reason I asked is I've had my eye on that coil also. With that added to my arsenal I should be good to go.

Delta-Its great, generally speaking. There are really only a few areas where it might be necessary to put on my 5" Excelerator, such as around the back door of an old farmhouse, picnic pavilion at the local park, etc. I try to stay away from those anyway as they are not my big producers so far. I can say this with great confidence-you won't be disappointed! They command a healthy price both new and used because they do work so well. As long as I have an FBS machine there will be an X-8 on the team...

++1 on The Sun Ray coils X5 and X8 are fantastic coils and as said above ! I have also found to cover more ground and still get around in some trashy parks .....the Ultimate 13 inch coil is the ticket !!!

I did a head to head test with the Sunrays X8 and Coiltek 10x5 and checked each target with both coils and the coiltek won hands down, remember coiltek made the coils for minelab before minnelab started making their own and they still work together today ... so do you want a coil that the manufacuturer has to backwards engineer it or one that has all the inside info ?

That is what I got coming the 10X5 what kind of ID depth am I looking at?

7" or so on dime penny size but a lot has to do with ground conditions ... biggie for me is it's 10" so I can cover more ground but only 5" wide for great separation, tones and numbers are spot on

Just what I was looking for

I have a lot of experience with the sunray X-5, 4.5 x 7, sunray X-8 and the ultimate 13.
all are very good coils. I slightly prefer the 4.5 x 7 coil over X-5 as I can cover more ground and get in tight spaces.
ultimate 13 is very good but in 2015 I swung the stock coil because it is a little lighter and is an awesome coil.
