What can I use for a makeshift scoop?

I am far from home and have no tools. Is there anything I can get at a hardware store or Dollar store or anywhere that will work in the place of a scoop? I have a Lesche with me and am going to use that in a few minutes. I saw one local lady with a Whites water machine, (the yellow one), but as expected I got the brush off, so I didn't bug her with any questions, she did say she was finding a few coins but she was up really high on the beach... what is left of it.

I read somewhere that a small basket from a deep fryer was good but I haven't been anywhere to look for one, will go tomorrow though... any ideas?

>>>Thanks for any and all help. I know little to nothing about beach detecting. I get to the beach about one week every two to three years<<<
