What can I expect?

Years ago(early 90's)I had purchased a used White's Eagle detector. It came up missing when my garage was broken into along with several power tools. :yikes:  Recently, under went leg surgery, and will have plenty of time off to rebuild my leg. Decided to get another MD and get some leg stretching exercise at the same time. I should have an Ace 250 about this time next week or so. Has anyone out there used both of these detectors, and can give me info as to how the depth of the 250 compares to that of the Eagle? I'm sure I'm in for a surprise with the newer technology. I've downloaded the instruction manual for the 250 and it looks relatively simple to setup and use. :clapping: Plus I gained much information at this forum about the 250. Also received email tips from DavHut and another question about ring cleaning from Big Cat Daddy. :please: This is a fantastic forum. Thank you all for making it so.This is the best of the best! Hope to be able to :detecting: and post some :cam: shortly. Promise to lighten up on the Smileys to.

By now you know what to expect - much fun and finds with the Ace 250!

How will the Ace 250 compare to the Eagle? Like apples vs. oranges, I should think. Much lighter in weight and totally different balance. Very different ID features. Simpler to use, too, without all that menu driven foofaw. But, not as many options to adjust, so you can look at that as good or bad, I'd think.

Everyone asks it, so lets respond - depth will be as good, maybe better. I am familiar with the circuitry that drives depth on the Whites from the Classic/IDX series. And I have been in cahoots with Mr. Bill lately on another Classic workup. The Whites runs a little smoother, IMHO, and offers a more "expressive" audio.

But, the Ace 250 lets you know clearly if you have a target - no doubt about it. Besides, the three tones on the Ace give just the right amount of info. This ties back to the 'simpler to use' thing.

You'll also find that the little Ace has a faster response than that "computer in a box" Eagle. Faster sweep speeds wont hurt much and can at times be a benefit.

Youve probably already heard that the little Ace is sensitive. It is! Run the detector at 4-6 on the SENS for most hunting. After some use you'll find that you are popping out little targets that the Eagle would probably miss - no biggie when its a .22 cal bullet at 4 inches. But, if it was a diamond earring or gold lapel pin, etc., then it would surely have merit!

The Ace's pinpoint will take a little training. Just follow the tips I sent you and visit the Garrett website. They have a little animated movie on it.

You'll like the little Ace, especially if you take it for what it's worth and avoid too many comparisons to this or that detector. I was a little skeptical - all right a lot skeptical - when it first came out. But since Ive gotten one I can see what the fanfare is about. Glad to have you back in the fold.
