Hi.
Am new to this site, and new to the X-terra 70.
I used to detect with a sovereign, many years ago, and normally research a new detector before I buy.
But this time, I just not be bothered, so I called a detecting shop, and asked for some advice.
The X-terra 70 is on its way to me right now as I write this thread.

So are they any good???
Pros and cones plz.
also and tips on how to get the best out of it.
lastly, is it worth getting the bigger coil.

many thanks

Without trying to answer all your questions let me say this.
You have a great machine there. on my first one and have close to 300 hours on it. With the 7.5 kHz 10.5 DD it is an awesome coin and relic machine.
Very easy to learn. Just turn on and go basically. You will not be disappointed. You will also get an abundance of info here.
Congrats on your Purchase.

Welcome to the MEGA finders club! I hope you have a treasure chest already cause your gonna need one or two.:clapping: The best advice I can give you is wine and dine your detector.....just keep it out of the bed if your married Im sure your wife wouldnt appreciate finding an electronic device under the sheets if you get my drift!:inlove: A good set of headphones will go along way and are a must.... the koss are awsome. Bob uses the 10.5" 7.5khz coil where as I use the 18.75khz eliptical DD coil. I use this coil on the beach alot and is a great asset for prospecting. The stock coil is a fantastic coil and you simply cant go wrong with minelabs range of coils for the XT-70. The power consumption still blows me away and the XT-70 will just keep on going with a good set of alkalines. I use a LED headset for night detecting and have scared a few odd couples on the beach doing strange things so please be careful LOL. Anyway have a great time with your detector.
Cheers!

Thanks Guys

Its morning here in London, England.
Bit early 4 the post man to have arrived, so don't have the detector at hand.
How does it compaire to my old sovereign XA-2 pro.
I did like the old girl, but it was heavy.
I used to mount it at the underside and back of the stem, this balanced it very well, but did nothing 4 the weight (I did have a switch next to my hand for all metal)
I found the sovereign to be good, BUT not as good as some would say!!!!!!!

Saying that, I did not try many other units, side by side, so it is very hard to gauge how good it really was.

How does the new one fair against the sovereign

The digital readout is as simple as can be. Do an air test over the coins you have and not the readout. It is in increments of 2. US coins in my area come in basically like this.
Nickel-12
Wheat penny-30
Zinc penny-32-34 and sometimes 36
Dime-38
Quarter-42
Half dollar-44
Silver dollar-46
Hot rocks-48
Your Gold Jewelery mostly in the nickel range + & -
Hope this helps a bit.

I had a sovereign XS2 pro. The sovereign sure hit the small stuff but the recovery speed on the Terra is much better.

Keep the disc wide open and use 2 tones, never look at the ID.Just dig as you normally would with the sov.Open disc means better recovery.

Buy, maybe one of the DD 18khz coils. they will find the hammies better and with a highr ID if you (peep) at the screen.

When in 3 tones or more, iron can jump from iron sound to top sound but rarely from iron to next lowest tone. DIG ALL THOSE.

Its a very good detector.

Post arrived about 1:30, had it build and was out the door by 2.

went to a very local field that the farmer never plows.

turned the detector on, and away I went.

Most other detectors I have used have never come close to there claims.

maybe they don't claim much for the X-terra, but it does exactly what it says on the tin (British advert saying)

I am very happy with the X-terra 70, it is very simple to use, read out is simple and easy on the eye, you ain't trying to find every thing, it kind of finds its self (if that makes sence).

I never found much, as I was only out for 2-3 hours, and this field has never been plowed, bit it did find lots of small objects, and some bigger ones.

just need to learn a bit more about it and try other settings (only used ti one factory pre-set)

any other tips on using the X-terra plz
