Maybe this happens everyday to a lot of you folks but this sure was a first for me. Stopped at a small river walk park yesterday. The area I was in was pretty much trash free so when I got a solid 14 hit, I dug it. To my total disbelief, up comes two gold rings. FIrst lesson I learned is to be careful. The band on the smaller ring was mashed and cut in two by my digging tool. The larger ring with the stone was untouched. Since they are both the same size and fit my pinky finger, I'm just assuming they came off the same finger at the same time. Anyway, other than the gold "K" scale along with "925" and "950", I know as much about jewelry as I do about brain surgery. I'm making them out to be 10K but the stamping on the inside of the larger ring is GB 4910KMEX. The smaller ring, well...these old eyes can't quite make it out for sure even with a jewelrs loop but it looks like G09910K... possibly G00910K. Does the MEX refer to Mexican and if so, is this their normal method of marking jewelry? I'll never be too old to learn sometning new. Thanks for any clues to these.
