What are the notable differences?

Between the XS and the SE Pro, what was improved on other than the obvious coil?

Anyone one out there who has or does own both? I have an XS and I love using it but I am getting the SE Pro and want to know what I will see that is different.

Thanks,

Jeff

The only difference that I am aware of .. is that with the SE you have target ID in pinpoint mode. Never owned an XS, so someone else can chime-in if there are more differences.

I posted this is a previous thread so, I copied and pasted it for you.

The most notable differences between the XS, XS-S & XS-II and the SE Pro are:
1. "VCO Pinpoint" (tone increases as you get over the target)
2. Target ID in PP mode
3 Larger option in Iron-Mask settings. IM was wide open at -16 on the XS-II
4. "Pitch Hold" The Threshold retains the pitch of the last detected target until the next signal is located.
5. Compared to the XS,XS-S and XS-II the SE Pro has the Pro coil vs the standard 10". The SE is an SE-Pro without the Pro Coil fwiw. Keep in mind the stock coil that came on the earlier XS (prior to the SE model) models is great coil.
6. SE-Pro has 3rd Generation processor (for quicker target response ID on the screen). Use your ears to determine what you dig then the screen as a reference.
7. The SE is Black and does not show the dirt as bad.

Thanks Mike,

I am using the XS with the original white stock coil. That coil is a beast but is great on top of the grass and seems to be a very good coil. What impresses me the most is how stable my XS is in semi auto and the depth I am getting. I compared it on a deep coin against my Etrac in auto plus 3. The Etrac struggled unless I went to manual and put up with the falsing while the XS in semi auto banged on a deep coin in that same small area all the while chuckling at my Etrac :surprised:. Needless to say I was extremely impressed:surprised:. Just goes to show that the original Explorer is no slouch against another top machine.

Don't get me wrong because my Etrac has been very good to me with deep coins but that particular one was not so good.

I have an SE coming to me soon and I figure I will put a 13" Ultimate coil on it.

I am just curious if an SE will be of any noticeable improvement over my XS. I sure do like my XS.

If you look at your Smart Find screen quite a bit it will be a difference.
The XS was the First Generation processor. The SE/SE-Pro is the Third Generation as far as how fast it will process information and relay it to the Smart Find screen.

As far as depth: I cannot say on a definitive note because I sold my XS and then got a XS-S then got a XS-II back over 10 years ago.
I never got to to do a side by side from a XS to an SE only a XS-II too an SE and SE-Pro.

As far as side by side for the XS-II NO you will not see any increase in depth but, you may very well like the newer features the SE offers.
Many like the VCO pinpoint and the ID in Pin-Point mode but, for me it really does not matter.

As far as depth: Sure I can slap on a WOT coil but, that is what is giving me the extra depth NOT whether it is an XS-II or a SE-Pro. I rarely even use anything other then stock coils although I have some coils (small and big) just collecting dust.

You can ask 10 people which they prefer more. Remember to take it with a grain of salt because, you will get many different answers. The same goes for Coils, Headphones etc etc. fwiw.

I will also add you might already know ML does not appear to be servicing/replacing the Circuit Boards on the XS so, that is a plus for getting the SE.

Hope I helped!

Edit: I have no definitve proof but, I do feel from the XS-II and later the Audio Circuitry is better and offers a cleaner/crisper sound.

Jeff I think previous posters covered it quite well and it is faster and what everyone forgot it gives you two numbers on the display ferrous and conductive which many find useful also a little better ergonomically with better battery life...Don't care what anyone says sure they made improvements in the Explorer line but the original XS second run sep 0 can kick butt with the best of them but understand Minelab has no circuit board replacements for them...As far as the new SE pro coil some liked it and some preferred previous Explorer stock coils...
