Well, I thought the third time would be a charm as far as not having problems with a CTX, reality has proven me wrong once again. I've been hunting for five to six hours for the last two days, no problems, after about an hour of hunting, I go into my menu to start making adjustments to a mode when all of a sudden it jumped to the map screen. Even when I pushed the detect button, it would stay on that screen. After pushing the detect button a couple of times it would finally go back into my hunting mode. Went back into the menu screen to start making adjustments, same thing, jumped to another screen. I started pushing the top two right hand buttons, both of them were unresponsive. When I finally got my adjustments made I went to pinpoint and it wouldn't go into pinpoint mode. So I shut it down and powered it back up this time the pinpoint would stay stuck in pinpoint even though I did not have it in pinpoint lock. Now when I try to go to my last mode button it's unresponsive, other times it acts like it sticks and I can hear it clicking on the inside like it's changing modes but it's not doing anything. This is my third CTX I've had problems with, I sold the first two and went back to my Etrac. I bought this one from a guy that had never used it for the first year and a half because Minelab sent it to him as a replacement for the one he was having trouble with. I've been using this one since February and I've had no problems until today. Thank God I have 9 or 10 months of warranty left. I've been reading all the horror stories about the Minelab repair center turn around time, I thought I dodged a bullet by buying a new one that had never been submerge or used and basically brand new. It had been hanging on the wall from the time the guy had gotten it until I bought it. Looks like I'll be calling Minelab first thing Monday morning to see if I can get a return authorization number. I will try a master reset when I get home after I download all my programs just to see if that straightens it out but from what I experienced with the button sticking and not being responsive, I don't think a master reset is going to fix that. 3 top dollar machines, 3 different problems, I am really disappointed and frustrated with the CTX. This is the first model I've ever had problems with in 30 years of hunting.

Interesting....personally I wouldn't buy a CTX and hang it on the wall, but that's me. I'll be waiting to know what the issue is just in case I see it crop up...good luck Dan!

The guy had two brand-new ctx"s he used one and this one was his spare that was hanging on the wall for a year-and-a-half.

It started acting up again and I was able to get it on video.

I hope they will sort it out for you

That sounds odd he had two CTX one went bad and Minelab replaced it for him and he. Just hung it on the wall? There was a post sometiMe ago a guy said he hung his CTX on the wall and never used it because he heard he might have problems with it. I don't know if this is who you bought your machine from but here is a link to the old posts

What happened was, he was having problems with a CTX he bought, he sent it in for repairs, they sent it back and he was still having problems. They told him to send it in again. While he was waiting he bought the machine I have now. Minelab ended up replacing his machine with a new one. He had the one I have now hanging on the wall for a back-up or spare and never ended up using it it. I bought it from him in Jan or Feb of this month, the machine was pristine, absolutely clean as new, no scuffs on the coil, no signs of use with 18 months of warranty left. I've used it up until now with no problems. Today after an hour or so of hunting, it started acting bizarre as seen in the video. I sent the video to Jamie at Minelab, now I wait and see.

Yeah...about the time it started just running the numbers down by itself in the video was when I knew for sure the toast was done! Sorry man. ML will undoubtedly take care of the pad issue...not to jinx the deal or anything but I can't see why not. But you sir,are outta a CTX for a bit. Let us know how the repair process goes.

No, it wasn't Jimmy, I've done quite a few deals with him and he is as good as gold. This was a guy who sent the machine to me before he got my USPS MO, We talked on the phone and he told me exactly what the deal was with the CTX. No ones fault at this point, just a screwed up CTX.

All of what you describe can be associated with the issue of low supply voltage or weak backup battery. Part of a supply issue could be a connector contact issue. So if out of warranty I'd advise opening it up and clean any ribbon cable connections with alcohol. The internal battery s/b 3.0V or higher - replacing it may force a reload of firmware and loss of your custom programs. It a really depends on the age of your detector. These things wiil just happen to any controller-based product - even a sprinkler controller...

The machine is still under warranty, so, it's going be taken a trip to see the wizard. Thanks for the info though.

I just bought a new ctx in July 2017, battery quit charging in Aug. Was told to send in battery & charging cradle which I did on Aug. 21. I called about 2 weeks ago & they said they would check on it & call back, still waiting. Guess I'll try to call again this week, service doesn't seem to be a strong point.

Hi Stevey, can you email me at service@minelabamericas.com and provide some more information so I may look into this for you?

Just got a call Thursday from Marty. I guess he got with you and they are sending me a new cradle and battery. They emailed me the tracking number and it should be here Tuesday. Many thanks to you and Marty,
