A CZ21 and the 1280-X Aquanaut? I have the 1280, hunt freshwater only, and am wondering if it'd be an advantage to use a CZ-21. Thanks...Jim

Jim,

The CZ21 is a dual frequency machine with manual ground balance and tone ID. I believe the 1280X has a preset GB and is single tone.

The big advantage the CZ has is in the salt water. I hear good things about the 1280X in freshwater but it seems to be a little shaky in salt water, especially in the suds where the water is moving and mixed up. Some say it settles down once the coil is completely submerged, but I think the CZ would be a much better choice if you were doing a lot of salt water hunting.

Not sure of the depth differences since I never used a 1280X, but I do know the CZ's go deep. Plus it's nice to have tone ID when working in trashy areas.

SInce you stated you only hunt freshwater, I think the 1280X should do you just fine.
