What do you consider to be the best headphones by brand regardless of price? There are quite a few brands available and prices and quality. Pros and Cons Thanks

I like the Detector Pro Rattlers simply because I hate covering both ears.

I love my Detector Pro Uni-Probe headphones.Pointer is DEEPER
than any other pointer out there except for the Periscope Probe which
is rarer than hens teeth. It just makes pinpointing a snap and gives
great info. on depth of targets without even digging a plug.
2nd on my list are my Troys as I am tone deaf a little but they
do the job for me with volume control. JMHO of what works for me.

Headphones maybe the most individualized thing about detecting so the BEST ones are going to be the one's that work best for you. I'm almost embarrassed as to how many I've tried.....Detector Pro Uni Probe , Grey Ghosts , Pro Gold , Koss x many , White's , Garrett's , Howard Leight's , Rapoo's , various types of ear buds and the ones I use the most are $20 XP wired backphones :) http://www.metaldetector.com/xp-deus-foldable-wired-backphone

My vote would also go for the XP wired headphones for the price the audio quality that they produce is really amazing and in my mind that is what is important being able to her those deep targets.

The headphones built into the Uni Probe give you a great set of headphones and the best pin-pointer there is. The Troy pros are the ones I used on my Explorers as they had the best volume for us that are hard of hearing as it had great volume and found another set that works on all detectors for volume I have tried and those are the Bushmasters. Now if you have good hearing I am told by many the Sun Ray Pro golds have the best sound to them. I tried 3 different sets of the Black Widows and found they were not loud enough for me, but the Uni Probe and the Bushmasters are made by the same company as the Black Widows and have a much better volume for me than the Black Widows.
One thing I really like with the Uni Probe is the cable that goes from the detector to the headphone is a replaceable item in the Field, as you know most headphone problems is a wire breaking in the cable so if you carry a spare one it is changed in 5 seconds and don't ruin your day.

Hi,
That depends on the weather.
I´m not joking.
On hot, humid summer days I prefer foam earcups because you sweat less under them and that reduces itching - in cold weather or on a windy day I prefer the leather type earcups that keep my ears warm and the whistling sounds of the wind outside.

Killer B II headphones. I like being able to ADJUST the volume for each ear. Even with my LOUSY hearing I get plenty of volume and I can hear the different tones that my detector puts out. The warranty is outstanding. I have had the cord malfunction twice and all it cost me was shipping to have it replaced. Fixed and back on the way to me in two or three days after they arrived at the repair facility.

That keeps out outside noises. Their are several that are essentially shooting muffs with speakers. This will allow you to concentrate on all the sounds under any conditions.

I run Black Widows. There is someone out here who is knowledgeable to put a list together for you of these types.

Lastly I consider keeping out noises from outside sources so important that any other headphone is junk to me.

I hunted just a little today without using Headphones. I was doing this to demonstrate my Detector to a friend just using just the Detector speaker. I realized real quick that I was at a severe disadvantage without my Headphones.

I am very happy with Grey Ghost originals, run them with a Tesoso Tejon so I hunt only by sound. I've never tried any other brand of high end metal detecting headphones but I would think the performance would be similar. I did try high end Schlessinger headphones made for audiophile quality music. The Schlessinger headphones may be great for music, but they don't impress on a metal detector, the response is too slow, tones that should be clipped are not, and there is too much bass. If you want to use headphones on a metal detector then buy headphones designed for that purpose. Most high end metal detecting headphones will have high impedance drivers, volume limiters, and a price tag around $150.00. They're worth every penny.

Well Bill,

Regardless of price I prefer:

1) Sunray Pro Gold's (higher, crisp tones)

2) Ratphones (mellow, full spectrum tones)

3) Vintage Realistic Nova Pro's (soft, mellow tones - 8 ohm drivers)

And for wireless I prefer: Macally wireless, compact and very nice tones! Sorta between the Rats and Sunray's.

When summer arrives, I prefer the Radio Shack ear buds w/soft wrap around hooks. I use them with my wide brimmed hat.

I really don't like cheap headphones in the field. The just don't cut it in detecting.

That's my 2c. Good Luck!

The best headphones are those cheap black sony ear-bud headphones. All others seem to go faulty after a while or, are big, heavy and sweaty.
