What are the best cz-20 settings?

Someone just lent me a cz-20 with a 10" coil to play with. Can anyone give me a quick guide to start the engine for salt beaches. I have an Excal, Sovereign GT, and Pi Pro, so I do have experience, but not with a Fisher so I'm just trying to get a quick guide that the pro's use.

Settings I use:

1. Disc at "zero" all tone Disc, you will hear low iron tones over iron.
2. I set volume at "6" which a slight audio target boost for deep targets.
3. GB according to location.
4. Sensitivity---- here's where results vary, I can run mine on "10" on some very nasty black sand beaches, but I see others have reported only being able to go as high as "6". You'll have to find this out for yourself.

Weak low tone targets that pinpoint deep(lower tones on VCO) should be explored, remove several inches of sand and re-check target. Pinpoint on the CZ20 is fantastic, and it will de-tune with a quick jab of the button

If you're working packed wet sand above the water line, forget about scoops, a "D" handle shovel and sifter will be much better. I've pulled coins at 20+ inches in the winter on hard packed sand with the 8 inch, and they were measured with a tape.

Thank You Bill I printed your settings and I'm gonna give it a whirl tomorrow.

I'll echo BarnacleBill's settings, but give you a number of caveats:

1. In my experience this past year, the tones aren't 100% accurate - especially on items that pinpoint fairly deep. I've pulled up pennies that registered as midtone and gold that registered as iron. Bill is exactly correct that deep low (iron) tones are sometimes going to end up being good finds.

2. Only experience will tell you this, and I don't have enough to really guide you, but there will be many times where you will get a low tone going in one direction, and a mid tone going in the other - or a mid tone followed by high tone. You can switch to all metal mode at that point (or pinpoint) to get an idea of the shape and depth of the signal.

I'm still in the process of digging almost all of those kinds of erratic signals until I am familiar enough that I can trust my judgement. Sometimes those targets can be a coin or gold next to an iron or foil target, sometimes they can be deep coins on edge, etc...

Good luck and let us know how you did.
