What are the best after market coils for the Explorers ?

Dan(NM)

Well-known member
Been out of the hobby for some time now, but am getting my gear back together. What's the best performing after market coil for an Explorer these days ? Thanks.

I find the stock fbs coil nice that was until i bought a 12x10 excelorater (SEF) coil by Detech but i would like too try a bigger one 18x15 for my hunted too the brink fields just too see if there are any DEEP signals left

This thread may help. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?19,1055627,1055627#msg-1055627

I personally like Sunray, butother have had success with Detech and Coiltek

I have two aftermarket coils. A 15 inch WOT & a 5 inch stealth. Love them both. If I want to dig coins up to my elbow, I chose the Wonderful orange thing. If I want to dig in a garbage dump , I chose the stealth.

I use a 6" Excelerator EQ2 and a Sunray X-5 for aftermarket coils. And have been considering an 8X6 SEF also . . Good luck !

I'd like to know the answer to this one as well. I have the 8x6 SEF and it amazes me how well it does in an air test. It does much better than the 11"pro. But that's my experience, others may have different results.

Whats your thoughts about the EQ Pro 2 as compared to the X-5? PM me if you want.I have a EQ Pro 2 but have
an opportunity to pick up a used X-5 for a good price!

They are both great coils. But I have had better luck/finds with the EQ2. That does not imply that it's a better coil, I am sure I would have found them with the X-5 if I had it connected. The EQ2 goes deeper, no doubt about that ..
