What am i doing wrong?

MEV

New member
Yesterday took my ctx 3030 out for the fourth time, did not do well again. I just dont know what am i doing wrong,

These were my settings

Silver
Manual sensitivity 25
Auto ground balance
ferrous coin and ground coin

I Havent even plugged my ctx 3030 to my computer, i just feel when a target is found with my ctx 3030 it barley detects it deep or not

I get a lot of false signals

Do i have to download a program?

Help me please

Thanks

First try auto sensitivity and if you don't have a test bed make one, make sure your connections are all tight and no bent pins etc. Use your earphones if your not, if it will not work in a good test bed something is wrong with it . I would try it with another CTX and see if there is any differences if you can get one before I sent it back. Also is your ground balance checked or unchecked .

auto sensitivity and auto tracking at first. bury a few coins at 4 inches at least and see if you pick them up and how they sound.
you also say you are using ferrous coin and ground coin. which one??? try combined audio too and see if that helps but doing some testing in the ground with known targets should help you to see whats going on. if you hit them good at 4 inches, bury them deeper. also check and see what your audio volume is set at.

MEV, go to the following thread:

Follow the learning the CTX3030 step by step. By the time you go through all of it you will understand your machine and what it is telling you.
You definitely need to download and install xchange2, plug your CTX in and make sure it doesn't need the update.
Look through the threads in the CTX Resource center. There is a lot of great info there from some very experienced people.
Most importantly, don't give up. You have a great machine, take the time and learn it and you will be rewarded.

Try these settings for a Trashy Site. Tone ID 50 Tone CO, Responce normal, recover Fast off, Recover Deep on, Target Seperation Ferr Coin, Volume Gain 30, Threshold Level 15, Threshold Pitch 15, Sensitity AUTO, Auto Level A, Manuel Level 21, Ground Bal Enable off, Noise Cancel Auto. I hope this helps.

I Set it to TRASH HIGH if in a trashy spot, or TRASH normal or low in a clean spots instead of FERROUS COIN or GROUND COIN since your hunting in a trashy park or spots. After hunting this way then I will give FERROUS COIN a go over the same area and or GROUND COIN to see if anything was missed usually not..

Go with GROUND DIFFICULT it helps it punch down deeper in medium to highly mineralized ground and to ID big silver, at least it does on the ETRAC so if it isn't turned to GROUND DIFFICULT on the ETRAC you can walk right over big silver and not hear a peep so I always set it to GROUND DIFFICULT and TRASH HIGH with GAIN on 28-29 and FAST ON on both my ETRAC and my CTX3030.

I would go with Fast ON and DEEP OFF since you are in a trashy area it helps with the processors reset time to make it faster. Deep ON turns ON MORE filters and FAST ON turns OFF more filters so the machine responds even faster. I would use DEEP on only in a clean area. You can get better results by upping the GAIN to 29-30 as it amplifies the deeper signals and makes them almost seem shallow so you can hear them so you don't need DEEP to be on just run higher GAIN settings.

Deep ON only really helps out with trying to help out with the deeper slightly jumpy ID numbers somehow.

Tom,
The CTX doesn't have a 'GROUND DIFFICULT' setting. It does, however, have a manual ground balance.

Otherwise, all very good advice for the CTX and ET.

trojdor thanks for setting me right. I should have fired up my CTX and looked instead I went off the top of my head.

So it's best to hit that ground balance enabled button off and let the machine do it's thing on it's own UNLESS the ground is salt or I remember there was a download upgrade early on after the machine came out and maybe he doesn't have this in his machine unless his is a newer purchase.
It was something to do with saltwater or beaches or so if memory is right and by us enabling it or downloading it it made the machine run better quitter and deeper people claimed as it effected most of the other programing in the machine somehow. Something worth checking into.

If not any of these then in another post in this CTX forum someone else has a bad board and coil hence his machine not working properly so that may be this gentleman's case also??
