Are you talking about when in the pinpoint mode?
If so, I know what you are talking about. I've seen
that here too. Pretty much what is happening is you
have another object in the detecters field, and it's
masking the real object when you are pinpointing.
IE: You'll find a likely target, and start to pinpoint,
but it's like it becomes one large target off to a side,
which doesn't seem to end, or center. It's usually a
2nd target or some hot ground cdx that is luring the
pinpointer off the desired target.
About all you can do is keep retuning the pinpoint mode
by repressing to the button.
You want to detune the machine, and thus shrink down the
field it is seeing. Then hopefully it will "center"
on the real target and won't see the other.
Another thing you can do is switch directions and
try it from different angles.
Adjusting the sensitivity does not effect the pinpoint
mode on the 250. It stays the same no matter what.
Only the ID mode is changed. The only way to change
the pinpoint mode sensitivity is by letting it detune,
and it's sort of automatic, according to what the machine
sees, ground cdx, etc.. So it's not uncommon to have to
retune the pinpointer a few times if you don't get the
proper action. IE: it's common to first pinpoint with a
strong pinpoint signal, and then retune a 2nd time,
and have it detune too much and totally lose the target.
So you just keep repressing it until you get the pinpoint
"size" you want. All proper pinpoint signals will "center",
with a dropoff each side of center. If it's drawing off
to one side, and seems to go way too far, it's picking up
another target in that direction most likely.
Time to detune and try other directions.
Remember that the pinpoint mode is true "non motion" detection,
and being preset, and then semi auto tuning, it's possible
for it to be real hot on the first push. Any close targets
will likely be seen too, and lure it off the real target.
