What age is this , and what excatally is it called ??

this was found with some other old stuff, square nails and a seated quarter and a couple buckles, I think it has to do with guns shooting ,hunting or something, also I shook it and can hear something inside, I figured it was dry mud rocks or something,but after a little rinse to clear the hole little round lead balls started coming out , small like pistol balls or something.........I know nothing about relics so any help would be great......thanks
 
I do not know the age but it is a powder flask for loading black powder. It looks like the spout is missing. But that is a great find, do you have any pictures of the bullets that were in it? That may help with the age...d2
 
adam, I believe what you have found is indeed a shot flask, not a powder flask, especially with the lead balls you found inside. Here is a link to one, not identical but something you can look at. Great find.

Thanks a bunch folks, I do indeed believe it is a ''shot flask'' after having looked at some others, this is pretty ornate and made of what appears to be brass and copper. Here are some pics of the balls that were inside and one other for size and a third that show where perhaps a strap was attached .....thanks for the replies and great I.D. on my item.........
