What about Airline regulations

got a question kinda related to the case. What do you do when you fly across country with your detector? Will they allow me to carry it onboard in the soft case? If I get the hard case would it have to be checked? I just don't want to get to the airport and have to decide there on what to do and certainly wouldn't check it in the soft case. I can only imagine what TSA would wonder what the heck it is going through an Xray machine.

Airline Carry-On Luggage Regulations

hmmm, I will have my 3030 here shortly and can measure the shafts but when broke down I wonder if I can find a carry on small enough to fit the requirements. I just hate to check such an expensive item and delicate electronics.

I have managed to always pack one in a carry on without issues. I've never been checked by TSA so I have to assume they se them frequently. In case the shafts are too long for a carry on just pack those in a suit case and then carry on the electronics so they don't get banged up or ripped off. If you don't have one get a hard side suit case with a TSA lock to help keep the casual baggage handlers out of your stuff. Not that the TSA is real honest either but every little bit helps.

I've broken down my Excal, MXT, and surf PI and packed into carry on luggage including metal shaft parts and traveled east coast to west and to Alaska with no trouble. They don't even ask to look in the bag anymore. To many people traveling with metal detectors I guess. My water scoop being larger always goes in the checked bag and I cross my fingers it's there when I arrive

I recently travelled from Canada to England, with detector as a carryon. Went through 4 security screens without a problem until the last. Asked to look in the bag and quickly took my half drank Gatorade bottle, lol. Asked what the other thing was, I replied Minelab etrac and the guy just closed the bag. I saw the image going through one of the X-ray machines and it didn't look suspicious or anything like a metal detector to me. Just a circle for the coil. Airports were Toronto London heathrow Ottawa and a couple of smaller.

I used to fly to a lot of work locations in Texas and NM. I broke the XS down and carried it on in a sports bag. I was never asked what it was. I just assumed a LOT of people must carry them on. But one word of caution.....DON"T forget and throw your Lesch or any digging tool in the bag with the detector. If so, you will be answering questions and be short a recovery tool when they are done with you.

wow thats crazy, getting onboard a flight with a leshe digger in your carry on bag?..lol i dont know about you but i have the one that looks like a rambo knife, with a small compass stored in the handle.lol I'd be too afraid they would stop me for sure.
