What a Sham

I was detecting my backyard again with the 12X15 coil and got a strong signal of a quarter at 5 inches. I dug to 5 inches and found nothing. I swept the hole again and it signaled a quarter again. Realizing the coil was not going to be accurate on depth I started digging deeper. I then used my Sunray probe and it indicated a quarter 3 more inches deeper; So I dug 3 more inches and hit metal. I had to use a shovel to dig out my quarter which turned out to be a large piece of aluminum. Using the pinpointer on the metal alone the reading was a quarter. realizing the metal was quite large I understood why the signal was so strong. I measured the depth and it was 13 inches deep. This coil not only sees deep but separates targets very well because there was a long piece of what looks like it was from a hanger at about 7 inches to the side of the hole. I have aluminum ring up as a coin depending on how large it is from time to time but this signal really fooled me.

I hate when that happens. That's what I call "that old Studebaker" down there. HH, Nancy

I'm not found of aluminum at all. I've had many similar experiences. What really gets under my skin though is the little blobs of aluminum that have come from campfires on the beaches or in playgrounds as well as the pull tabs that were disigned to STAY on the can.

Boy, isn't that the truth. We've got a boater friend that ALWAYS pulls the tab off the can before drinking it and would throw the tab in the garbage. Least he did that. But then I don't know what he does on land. To each their own. Well, all I can say is that it gives us more incentive to dig those targets and get them out, possibly finding that wonderful treasure that makes us smile. HH to all, Nancy
