Wet Weather?

Dyna_Willie

New member
I am planning on going out for the first time tomorrow. It is been wet here all day. What if any problems does this propose? I have been reading the forums and they have mentioned falses if it's too wet. Is that in grass? In pine bark mulch? Dirt? I have a BH Sharp Shooter II, any suggestions? Or bag it and wait for dryer weather? Thanks, Willie

hey dina willie , whether i use my nautilus, whites, or bounty hunters, once the coil gets wet, they all start to act crazy. i havent been able to go out several days now, its just TOO wet. as long as you dont come into contact with anything wet on the coil you should be ok. mulch and bare ground should be ok, but sweeps in grass, leaves etc. will get your coil wet with the quickness. good luck, and hh

That's good advice.

In would add that digging can get messy in clay ground. Finds are hard to wipe off. If you can put up with the mess and keep your coil clean you can do ok.

Cheers

Has anyone tried covering coil with a plastic bag? I have never tried it. Maybe it will work? Maybe it won't?

..................................................Just curious

It keeps the coil clean but doesn't solve the problem. The bag getting wet and dirty will have a similar effect.

It's neater though.

I have heard of people doing that in water to keep grit out.

Salt water is appearantly hard to clean off coils.

Happy New Year,

I have a friend who bags his coils and it works fine..Keeps them cleaner, and it doesn't seem to effect the stability.
When he's done he just throws the bag away. He uses heavy duty zip lock

I hunt in the rain all the time never found it much of a problem the wet ground is better. Dan

I usually hunt early mornings when often there is heavy dew and frequently after rain showers and I have never had a wet coil problem. In fact, I don't ever recall hearing of such a problem. HH jim

I also hunt in the wet grass.
Might be better, in some soil, and most likely is different, where you might find targets not otherwise located by the MD.
Definitely is messier!

If raining I would slip a baggie or tape plastic loosely over the control box.
Water NOT good for electronics under power!

Almost all coils waterproof.
IMO Loose plastic over coil might cause falsing?
