'Wet' metal detector.

Hello,

I am wondering if there is anyone who can give me some advice. This summer, I am considering purchasing a metal detector for beach and lake hunting. Here, in the Central valley of California, the ground gets too hard to do any good hunting from sometime in May to quite late in the year.
So my options seem to be to either go to the Pacific every now and then and do some saltwater/beach hunting, and check out some lakes, too, or hardly hunt at all during the summer and most of the fall.
Ideally, I would like to have 1 machine which would be able to handle both Pacific/saltwater and lake/freshwater environments.

Any pointers will be greatly appreciated!
