Western Australian Gold

I live in Sydney and am looking to go to WA next year. I would appreciate some feedback from people who have visited the WA gold fields please. My problem (perhaps) is that I do not have a 4wd. Some say you don't need one. I would like comments from experienced travellers/prospectors please?

You don't need a 4wd for most of southern WA.So long as you have a bit of clearance.
There weren't too many places I couldn't take an XC panal van.

Speak to Reed's Prospecting in Perth, they can steer you in the right direction on what is needed and what areas will be accessible for a 2WD vehicle.

I was told by a regular WA prospector that you should SLOW right down on the roads there when using a sedan because the angular rocks on the road there will puncture the tires at the higher speeds. Met a chap last week who took four spare tires and went through all four of them on one trip. Bring more fuel and water than you think you'll actually need.

How about a BMW 1200 Adventure!! :detecting:
