West Michigan Beach Report...air temp 55 degree F

What a mess! Our average air temp this July is 68.8 degrees F!....Today its a balmy 55 at 1:30 in the afternoon! I just contacted 4 of my hunting buds for a pick me up or inspiration, all hardcore beach/water hunters...one uses a Tesoro, one a Minelab, one a CZ20, and me of course with the AtPro...we have each gotten 2 gold rings so far this year, so what does that say? Out of all the collective miles of hunting? We also have the honor of registered the coldest temp in all of the lower 48 yesterday at the waterfront...49 degrees! Its July for Petes sake! Theres penguins wandering around on the beach and robbing the resident seagulls!

We may redeem ourselves in Aug/Sept and a bit of Oct...gonna have to be just the right conditions though, big blow and all...the Great Lakes water level is up 15" from where it was last year at our spot....one of us is gonna haveta find a deep cut in some prime real estate for any of us to salvage this dismal season...oh well, you other hardcores, just thought y'all might be interested in this phenomenon....one things for sure, if any noob thought he'd buy a rig and strike it rich on the sand or surf this summer, he's gotta be sadly disappointed! There aint no fresh droppers on the sand or in the water at all....woulda been a good year to stick to the dirt.:sadwalk: We are all gonna punch on through...maybe get the ONE perfect day in the right spot and hit that find!

Mud, remember when you said if you saw a cold day in July, you would change your sinful ways. Just a reminder. lol It's been in the high 90's to 100 around here the last week, but when I hit the river yesterday morning around 9 am the water was icy cold to me. I was wearing underarmor and pants and shirts on top. It was almost 11-12 in the morning when it started warming up. I would just be a fat icicle floating in the water where you live. Everybody must be leaving their jewelry at home. Too many detector shows on tv.
I always said if I saw a cold day in July, I would mend my sinful ways. When I left Germany, July-15, 1972 it was freezing cold and snowing. Drinking a beer on the way home, I rationalized that promise on mattered if I was in my home state of Georgia. In July 2007, I got right with the Lord and I quit drinking in Oct-1997. I'm always about 40 years behind the curve, but glad I didn't procrastinate when Jesus knocked on my heart. Anything else is fair game, my older brother have been planning a procrastinator's club for years now, but put it off until next year. Take care in that cold water.

Not quite as cold here around Lake Erie, but I haven't run into many drops. I've scooped one ring (today) a copper toe ring. Better luck for me in the mud.

It was a balmy 70 degrees when I got up this morning. It was quite a bit cooler today than usual as it only got up into the 80's. It has been in the mid 90's most days. To say the beach was Crowded would be an understatement.

I beat the sand for about 3.5 hours then 2.5 hours getting slapped around by the surf. One wave caught me not watching and slapped me down. At the time I was only waist deep and it hit me square in the face.

Sure didn't find much for the amount of effort expended. A couple dollars in clad, four junk ear rings and one small sterling silver ring that weight a grand total of 2.6 grams.

Oh well I had fun and got a lot of good exercise.

Looking back at my notes, July has never been very productive for me water hunting hunting gold...generally its Sept/Oct...thats when the water is at its warmest, and nobodies around, and there is a few good blows that clear the overburden..those underarmour longsleeve tops and longjohns are the perfect poormans diveskin! Just right for the intermediate temps!

BRRRRRMud! Have you tested any of the wetsuits yet? If I know you you've got about a hundred dirt sites knocking around in that head of yours. Might be a good time to visit a few! :twodetecting:

Yeah, Mac...been wearing the new 3mil farmerjohn...even so, yesterday the water temp was 41..the wetsuit is good, but theres nothing as light and easy as shorts ...so yes, I've been punching away in the dirt for the last 3days...
