Went "Walking" through the park yesterday.......

Just got my Sovereign GT from Silverstar_Lawman and decided to take it for a test spin in a local park. It was my first hunt since last fall. First signal was a nice Medal and the second signal was a sweet Walking Liberty half dollar (my first!!) also found about four or five pulltabs, aluminum can top, a couple of zincolns and a clad dime. Not bad for an hour long hunt.....huh? Funny thing is, the coins and medal were no more than 2-3 inches deep. When the machine sounded off, I knew I had something good because the Sovereign, when detecting silver, will sound off with the most beauiful song.

The ole Sovie is already beginning to pay for itself. Oh... and I will deftinatly be going back to that park.:detecting:

Thanks Silverstar and thanks for looking everyone, Bottlebum

I was surprised that it had a legible date too.
Too bad someone took a pair of wire cutters to the edge.:sadwalk:

Thanks Ron. So how are you getting along with your new GT? I'm noticing alot of falsing when I bump the coil into things, especially with the eight inch, Tornado coil. Not so much with the ten inch coil. Have you noticed whether or not yours does this? I've had a couple other Sovereigns, including a GT and never noticed any of them falsing like this one does, at least not from bumping into things. Doesn't have to be a hard bump either.

Bottlebum,I had a 800 Tornado coil I used for a season I got from Ron it worked great used it on my XS.The small Tornado coil was sold with a unit that was resold and I swapped the coil and kept the 1000 Tornado.Anyway I missed the smaller coil and bought a used one its been a disappointment not as stable and not as much depth I sold my XS thinking the unit was going to need repairs because of this coil. This was a wakeup call to switch to the GT.I'm using the Tornado 10 inch coil haven't used the 800 coil for a while.I may try to find someone who can shorten the cord, which this cord doesn't seem to have a shield and could be an easy repair?I know the air test is lousy in the sens auto but in the ground I'm searching I'm finding targets with good depth that won't lock in with the higher sensitivity.

Sounds like I could be having the same problem with this 800 coil. I am going to give it another test tomorrow to be sure. I know that it's not the machine because I have no problems at all with the 1000 coil. Bad thing is that I bought the coils used w - the machine, like new used, but still used......I might have to eat the 800 coil.

This is my second GT. Like a fool, I traded my previous GT, with just about every accessory you could think of, for another brand detector. What a huge mistake. It's not that the new machine was bad, it's just that it wasn't right for me and even though I sold it and used the money to buy the Sovereign I have now, I will still have to spend alot of extra to replace all of the accessories I had. Live and learn I guess. I'm keeping this one, no matter what.

Too bad you got rid of your XS. I had one with the coinsearch coil and have yet been able to match the performance I got with that setup. I really miss it. Used to find alot of deep old coins with it. I know I will be able to do the same with the GT but it's going to take some time to learn it well. I'm glad to hear that you are doing good with yours.

Bottlebum,The XS is a great detector, but these units are starting to exceed their life span and the user is going to face repairs. The GT has more options and should have a better chance of not needing repairs. The one thing I won't miss is the battery system used for the XS.

True, the battery system for the GT is a deftinate improvement.
I'm heading out to give the park another try and to retest the 800 coil. Hopefully I will find something worthy of posting. Have a good one.
