So down to the lake with the Excel and Headlamp looking like a beach proctologist.

Thought I had a dime at 10 inches but turned out to be the Golden Wedding Rye Whiskey screw cap. One el cheapo broken silver ring. And the most educational target the '64 Jeff.

From the Jeff I learned that the CZ low weak iron tone = the weak +36 on the Excel. The machine is simply saying "I dunno". So if you get a weak +36, dig a little and re-check.

Beautiful night out, the Loons calling across the bay, the big dipper filling the sky, and me out there playing 49'er miner.

Any guesstimate on how deep the nickel was? At sites where you can dig it all I always check the weak high tone hits whether they lock on or bounce +/-. Seems to be about a 50/50 chance on being either non-ferrous vs thin rusty metal bits of various shapes/sizes.

kidney shaped piece(sorry Tony!), pictured above the ring, was +36 at any distance. Looks like it might have been the outer ring of a brooch. And the broken small silver ring was a tough target to recover, very weak signal even on the surface and jumpy ID. I was thinking junk, but I've cleaned the area so badly I went for it.

And please note the rusty coating on the Jeff, along w/ the green corrosion, which caused a HUGE halo to form, allowing even an Excel neophyte to rescue that bad boy from the depths!

Maybe the Excel don't need no halo. :poke:<p>Seriously good find Bill!
