Went to the barber shop on the Island.:clapping:

It has been quite awhile since I have been able to get out and do any detecting. Been having some health issues and going through some chemo that has been zapping my strength, but I was able to make it to our club hunt yesterday to one of the Islands that we hunt at. Our club has been to this place about five times now and we still keep finding some old stuff and barber coins have been found on most of the hunts there so I always have the hope that we didn't get them all in previous hunts. We had a pretty good turnout for the hunt and I think there were eleven total that made it. This one couple I get a kick out of. I call them swinger and digger.:cheekkiss: He swings his detector and his wife does the digging for him. Now, is that true love or what. I was going to take my camera and take a couple of pictures of this area that we hunt, but I ran out the door and forgot the darn thing. On the way over to the Island riding on the ferry my buddy Lee made the comment that he bet that there was still a barber half at this place. He must have ESP or something and I will explain that later. I'm not sure what the total silver coin count was or just exactly what everyone else found so I will just go by what I heard and remember. There was one V nickle found, several small silver rings and I heard that swinger and digger found a SLQ, but I don't know what the date was. Just heard that it was in very nice condition. I sure wish that we had more seated coins around my area. One more barber dime and two seated dimes and I would have had a grand slam on silver dimes.:clapping: After about two hours of detecting and only one merc and one rosie dimes and a couple of wheaties in my pouch I cranked up my sensitivity on my XS to 26 where it was just starting to break up, but still remaining pretty stable. About twenty minutes later I got this sweet sound and it was a good eight inches deep. Dug my hole and starting removing the dirt and on my digger was this big clump of dirt and I could see the the rim of a coin sticking out that I knew was a half dollar. I walked over to my buddy Lee with this clump of dirt in my hand and I handed it to him. He said you got a barber half didn't you and I said that I didn't know what it was. He broke apart the dirt and sure enough it was a nice 1899 S barber half.:clapping: and in a joking manner Lee said, " you son of a &#@*&.............:nono: Lee usually just kicks my butt on our hunts, but on this day the table turned.:starwars:My total take for the day was my barber half, a 1911 S barber dime, 1941 and 44 merc dimes, 48, 54 and 59 rosie dimes, a 16, 17, 30, 42, 58 and two no date wheaties. Lee did get a merc dime and not to be out skunked by me he did manage to pull out a nice 1901 S barber quarter.:clapping: It was a very good hunt and again, just being able to get out and be with your friends is all that matters. One more comment and then I will do my post. This is the first time that I have found more old coins than I have clad. I only dug up twelve clad coins and ended up with fifteen old coins. Boy, wouldn't that be sweet if you could do that every time that you went out. Sorry I didn't have more of a coin count and dates from the other club members, but I hope my finds and story are worth posting since there really hasn't been a lot of stuff being posted lately because of all the crappy weather around the country. Thanks for looking everyone and HH if you are able to get out.

nice coins and looked like you had a good day Ed. We've been getting 50 degree days here lately and it looks like Spring time is nipping at the door so when it melts all this snow and ice still left I will get back out there.

Didn't know Lee's 1901 S barber quarter was a key date until now. I just looked it up in my 2004 coin book and called Lee and he was on cloud nine. My book says it's worth $2,600 in G4 condition and it's at least a G4. He just cleaned it with water and is taking it down to a local coin dealer tomorrow to get their opinion on it's condition. Stay tuned and thanks. HH.

Thanks Chris. He just cleaned it off in water and is taking it down to a coin dealer tomorrow to get their opinion on what condition it might be. Stay tuned..........:clapping:
