Went to a 1700's farm today

Farm property was sold to the county and will become part of Green Acres after the house and barns are torn down. Searched only a small area that is accessible now, was getting several iron signals per sweep. Gotta be more goodies there but the old nails and other junk mask any deeper coins. Dug up the 6 inch deep 1787 NJ colonial penny, I'm lucky it was in a clean area and not masked by a nail. Haven't dug one of those in about a year so finding it made my day. Also dug the 5 relics. Was using the X-Terra I bought new about a week ago, still learning how to use it. Jabbo

Nice finds dave, that jersey copper looks in pretty good shape ..strange looking buckle there in the center though...congrats..

I was using the small 6 inch 3khz coil, still can't get past all the trash. I know there is more old coins there but the nails are in the way. Most of the property is not accessible now while demolition is going on. Both sections of the buckle were found in the same hole, I guess they were used together on a leather strap. Others who use the X-Terra say to use lower the sensitivity in heavy trash. I will go back there and try that method, maybe I can get some good signals amongst the trash.

A colonial coin of any type is on my list. I feel this year is the year, great finds

Good job! I'm jealous of you guys that can find those older colonial type coins back east. The two buckles are both from a Johnson brand horse halter. still being made today. Hard to say how old those are tho.

Yea, I'm lucky to be able to search here in the east where really old coins are being found and they are only 8 inches deep or less. My oldest with a date is a 1718 British penny found near a cellar hole in the woods along River Road. It was a well traveled road during the Rev. war. British ships came up the Raritan River to New Brunswick, several were sunk. I found a small canon ball in the Raritan at New Brunswick, donated it to a local museum several years ago. Lots of pre-Rev war towns here, but people didn't have money back then, except for pennies mostly. Unfortunate for them, but I'm glad they had holes in their pockets.

Pink tourmalin set in low karat gold? I think that may be a good piece to have tested or I'll take it off your hands...:smoke:

The crown jewels shown here is junk metal, most likely was lost by the Queen Mother while digging potatoes here to feed her troops.

beautiful NJ copper!

Jabbo, go real slow with that 6". If you can tolerate it, use all metal and listen for those little high tone blips. You'll knock 'em dead with that setup.

Probably wont find one of those in Oregon. Someday I will make it out east and hopefully Great Britain.
