Went relic hunting with the Mountain Man...

He loaned me a like-new pair of Gray Ghost headphones to use, so I wouldn't look like a nerd detecting with him.

I had got permission to detect at a new place, 50 wooded acres near the battle of Sailer's Creek. But after a preliminary search of about an hour, we turned up nothing but a couple of shotgun shells and dead air... so we went to one of Mountain Man's sites.

Had only been there a few minutes when Mountain Man dug this front half of a Confederate block A button (artillary button). Not in the greatest shape, but sure beats a jab in the eye with a sharp stick! :poke:

A few minutes later, I found a flat button, and then got a deep bullet signal. You can see the bullet sitting on top (actually that would be the bottom of the plug).

Dug this broken knapsack hook.

And then just before we left, dug this Indian head "fatty", 1863.

Here are my finds for the day (already lost a flat button, must be out in the truck).
