and found the ground to be nearly frozen. These cold nights and even colder mornings have pretty much brought my detecting to a halt. I was not even able to dig a dollars worth of clad, and I had to pass up 6 or 7 quarter signals which were all probably silver rings. I can only hope that we have some warming around here so we can at least dig down 4 inches or so, but I am not real optimistic about that. I guess those of us who live in the cold climates who can't detect will have to rely on the folks in the warm climates to post their finds to help us pass our time away and keep the forum active and interesting. Go get em and HH Dennis in Idaho

The ground is much the same here Dennis. I'm glad I will get to hunt while I'm in Texas this winter. I'll try to get pictures and posts to you guys but because of the internet access it won't be every day. Rob

Dennis,
Was able to detect in your neck of the wood a couple weeks ago. (Went to Lewiston to visit family.) Looks like us here in the Puget Sound area won't be posting any new finds either. We are going to be getting a COLD blast and the swath is going to push clear into the southwest! I'll post some older find to help keep us warm. (Unless we get the usual winds and power outages.) HH to all, Scott

Dennis,

I don't post very often on here, but I really enjoy reading about and viewing other forum members finds. I guess the reason I don't add much here is because I don't have a digital camera to display my finds and just posting info that I found some clad and a couple of bangles at a schoolyard without corresponding pictures isn't very interesting. I am really technically un-savvy, but my 2009 resolution is to get a reasonably priced digital camera and go for it. I have a lot of catching up to do with displaying my finds on here (although I am certainly not in Nancy or your or most of the other contributor's league). Any advice from the forum members on an easy to learn and set up for picture posting digital cameras? Thanks!

Here in Eastern North Carolina, the temps are fine for detecting most of the year. Its the best time of year to detect..no crowds!

Pete

Hi Pete, any digital camera will be good enough to post pictures. Most have a Macro feature for taking closeups which is a help for our small finds. When you get a camera we can help you get your pictures small enough to post and get them on the forum. Rob

Thanks Rob. I'll let you know when I buy the camera and need help posting pictures...Pete

Hey Pete,
I'd suggest going online (or better yet to a local store) and check out the macro function on cameras. The price of a decent camera has dropped and most have the function but...some are heads and above better than others. Check out the options you have first. It should be easy to find one that has a superior macro. You will enjoy the ease of use with digital!

The reason I've noticed the huge difference between models is I photograph a lot of coins and...................my daughter LOSES a similar amount of MY cameras!!! (She replaces them immediately but Holy Smokes!!)

Hey Pete, get that camera and everyone here on this forum will help you to get up to speed so you can post photos of your finds. There are a lot of good deals on digital cameras especially during the Christmas sales. HH Dennis in Idaho

Pete, Good finds with the bangle bracelets. I would love to find my first some day. I enjoy reading about the finds as much as looking at the pictures. The pictures are just a little "bonus". Please,PLEASE never feel like just because you don't post pictures we're not interested in your finds, because we are. And if you do get a digital camera, there's always a helping hand here. Believe me, it's easier than ya think. It's our own minds that "try" to make it seem harder. I know!!! HH, Nancy
