Went out with an old friend today....

It was a beautiful day over here in Durham so I decided to finally get out after about a year of not detecting. The 5900 I acquired last week functioned perfectly, just like the one I owned 10 years ago. If the needle would peg on the 'kle' of nickle, it would be a nickle. Found a handful of change and with judicious meter use, I only dug 3 pieces of trash.

Tomorrow I'll be asking permission to hunt a very old home site I pass by every day. My only regret is that I don't have a smaller coil.

The old friend can still hunt.

Hey John

Those White's 5900 Di Pro SL (CB) detectors are nice, just a little heavy with the 950 coil. I bought one last year just to see if it lived up to it's reputation, and it did, I found the neatest Masonic large penny token and a large ladies victorian silver ring with it the first time out with it.

I decided to fix the unbalanced heavynes of the 5900, I bought a Tall Mans rod from White's put a 5.3 BullsEye coil on the tall man rod. Then I took off the "S" rod and lower rod and replaced them with the tall man rod and 5.3 coil. This turned the 5900 into a "straight rod" setup. IT now balances perfectly with one finger just under the meter housing. With this setup.......you can swing it all day.And if you run a 'hotter signal balance' with the 5.3 coil, it does not loose much depth and is a quicker responding machine.
