And found bullets... fractions of bullets... and more bullets... did I mention bullets? Couple split shot. No gold..... no coins..... Somebody help me. Please. I'm in gold bearing country. I'm hunting tailings, gultches, dry stream beds.... you name it. For some reason the gold gods frown upon me. I have put in sooooooooooo many hours with nothing to show for. Have you ever felt like smashing your machine into the ground? Anyway.... Thanks for listening. Whats the longest you've hunted without getting a single thing?

Don't give up! If you are in a gold area you'll find one sooner or later. Keep the coil low and go slow and listen for the whispers.
Everyone has a dry spell or two. Learn to poke your coil where most people would avoid. Check under the bushes and roll a few rocks out of the way, etc.
What detector are you using?

Thanks snakejim. I'm using an X-terra 70 with a 6'' DD 18.75kHz coil. I'd love to get a 4500 but just cant afford that so for now I'm just really focusing on knowing my machine.

That's a good detector. It should do you good. Try taking a small piece of lead bird shot or any small bit of lead, flatten it a little, put it on a poker chip or tape it to a business card, bury it an inch or two down in the area you are going to hunt. Try seeing what it takes to get the loudest response from it. Some people hear different frequencies better than others so see if changing the tone makes it louder, etc. A good pair of headphones is a must.

Yeah I've invested in a pair of sun ray gold pro's that I really like. I'll have to try that approach and see how it sounds. I think I need to focus more on those whispers I keep hearing about.
