Went out this morning.

I went to a local lake for about an hour and found three pennies (only two with detector) and a ton of pulltabs. Started getting hot so I decided to head towards the house. Stopped by a local school on the way for a short bit and found another penny sitting on top of the ground.

The ground is extremely hard as it's been well over a hundred degrees most of the week here. When I dig the dirt basically crumbles in my hand. There's no digging plugs. Guess I'll stick to the sandy and wood chips areas of parks and schools.

One question though.

My ACE 250 kept jumping around from foil/5cent,pulltab/penny most of the time. Most everything I pulled up when it was doing this was pulltabs and other various metal objects. Do you guys dig the target if it jumps around like this or leave it alone? There was numerous times I'd get a quick audible tone for a quick second and then couldn't find it again and then it would come back and then be gone just as quick. Is this trash as well?

I'm having some problems pinpointing but I'm guessing that's just something I'll have to deal with until I get use to the machine.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks & HH,
Joseph

Only hunt in the Coins mode for at least 100 hrs. until you get used to the machine. Lower the sensitivity to 4 bars or 50% if you haven't already done so. This will smooth the 250 out. At parks and schools, there are a bunch of trash targets usually. In Coins mode, the 250 will disc out a bunch of the trash targets and let you get the goodies. In coins mode, you will still get silver rings and some of the gold rings. And most importantly, SLOW DOWN. Take your time so the machine can lock in on the good targets. In parks and schools, I average a coin every 5 minutes.
It's a learning process, so be patient, the treasure will come!!

Thanks BigCat,

I needed that bit of encouragement and advice. Now that I think about it was rushing it. I got up pretty early to beat the heat and was in a hurrty to find some stuff so I could go home and get back in bed for a couple of hours before work. :b

I followed your advice on turning down the sensitivity to four bars and headed out to my backyard for a quick once over. I got a really strong $1 hit but the ground is so hard I couldn't dig down far enough to recover my find, whatever it may be. I didn't want to start pounding my garden shovel in the fear of damaging whatever may be down there. Guess I'll have to wait till we get some rain or it cools off. I have a strong urge to water that part of ground for the next couple of days just so I can dig that thing up.

A coin every five minutes. :hot: Hope I get to where I'm doing that.

Thanks & HH,
Joseph

I'm betting you've got a big piece of rusty something down there. You can "size" it by backing off to one side and hold the pinpoint down and slowly move back over it. If the signal get real strong and stays that way for about 6", then it's big. If it gets strong, then drops off real quick in about an inch, it is a smaller object. This can help you also from digging up crushed soda cans that will give you a nice belltone, but the signal will spread out as described above.
I hope its a real nice silver dollar!!
