Went MD'ing And Didn't Find Much:

Nancy-IL

Well-known member
We went out and hunted what looked to be like a really nice old place. We didn't even find one Wheat Cent there. And then to top it off, I dug a Memorial Lincoln almost 8 inches down. Needless to say, we moved on. Stopped at another town and got our detectors out of the truck and started swinging in another older yard we had hunted a short time before. I only found one Wheat 53-D and probably 50 cents or so in clad. Not all that great, but we had a great time trying and the weather was perfect. Same with the ground conditions. Larry didn't find any silver either, and only a 3 Wheaties. Oh, we did bring home some treasures.....2 baby Koi fish for the pond and that makes 11.

Hope others got out this weekend and don't forget to share your experiences. HH to all, Nancy

Hey Nancy , As a rather new MXT user , I was just curious as to how you like to hunt . I have been using relic mode , trigger forward , disc. at 0

and finding it very useful in trashy areas. I have the 6x10 DD coil on most of my hunts, and i intend to get the 4x6 DD coil very soon, for extreme trash.

Good luck and God bless ! Gregory, Santa Fe.

Gregory, We don't do any relic hunting per say around here, but I do like the relic mode to hunt. Trigger forward, but when starting out on a new piece of property, I like to get most of the coins, etc. out first (disc.5-6) and then the other treasures after that (disc. 1-2). Lots of times the surface coins, etc. will mask other deep targets. I use my stock coil to start off, but I'm going to put the 5.3" coil and see how I like that one. I tried the 6x10 DD coil and hated it. It didn't pinpoint objects like I wanted nor did it have the correct depth. But I read where many people love that coil, so it's one's own preference.

When doing playgrounds or wide open fields, I use the coin & jewelry mode (disc. 1) with my BigFoot coil. It's 4x18 and can sweep a field mighty fast and the pinpointing is right on the money every time!

I'm sure you'll love your MXT. Good luck and keep us posted, Nancy

Hi Nancy, I know what you mean about the depth reading on the 6X10 mine usually reads about 2" deeper than it really is. The only coil that reads correct for me is the 9.5. I don't have the 5.3 for the MXT . Let me know if it reads correct. I've never run the disc as low as 5-6, how deep can you get with the sensitivity (gain) that low? Rob

Robert, I'll let you know what I find out about the 5.3" coil next time we go out hunting. For now, it's raining and sounds like we'll be inside for a few days. As to the depth with running the gain that low?? Guess I don't understand. I was talking about the discrimination and basically cleaning the surface finds first. HH, Nancy

I didn't read that one right Nancy. Sorry Rob
