I finally got out for a 2 hr. spin tonight, it's been a while due to the holiday and work committments. I thought I would try Mangrove Bay where the Non-mariners race was held on the weekend to see if any new loot had fallen into the water during the festivities.
What I found was not what I expected.
A King George V british half penny minted sometime between 1911 and 1928. Three british large pennies 63', 64' & 65' with the young Queen Elizabeth II on the back. A 1994 1 Gulden coin from the Netherlands, now replaced by the Euro. A very old 10k Gold Ring that was embedded in the limestone on the bottom of the bay (cracked it breaking it out of the rock - darn) and an old brass button that I'm guessing is British as there was an old barracks across from this beach. Oh, and a silver toe ring, I really don't like those things but at least they're better than tribal ear hoops, how wierd is that?
Not one fresh drop in the bunch, so much for my theory.
Here's the Loot!

Good Hunting to All,

Is that a section missing out of the ring, or just where it cracked digging it out of the limestone? It's a nice find and a great way to get yer next streak going, so I'll expect at least 18K or platinum on yer next post. Don't dissappoint me! Oh and how about some ice too!

I love old rings and that ring looks like its been around the block :) Nice

Craig: That ring had been down in the waves for so long that the copper alloy they cut the gold with had started to leach out of the 10k and form a green patina. That takes a long time even in these salty waters.
I'm hoping that all that leeching out of copper has increased the karats to 10.5k so I can keep my karat average up.

Thanks for looking,

My Knights of Columbus ring is the same way... copper leaching out of the 10k gold..

Funny thing is, that it would have been my first junk ring. All of the rings I've found so far have been silver, gold or platinum.

Cheers,
