went hunting for gold today

I went to the park for an hour and dug all repeatable signals that were from pulltab to zinc penny, (trying for gold) here is what I got....lol

check out this penny I found, I rang up as a zinc penny, it was down about 6" I thought maybe it was an IH penny, but it turned out to be a 1936 wheatie....lol

wonder why it rang up as a zincer? I figure I will hit gold sooner or later if I keep trying this

LOL, you have a lot more patience than me!!! I only hunt on the coin setting, and still get over run with pull tabs!!!! I couldn't imagine running in all metal mode, I would go nuts with all of the other pull tabs!!!

I found my 18kt ring in coin mode, it rang up as a solid penny. so i can still hit gold!!! on the beach I run in jewelry mode, but never in all metal mode...

Treasurefiend, try this: Get some pieces of your wife's jewelry or your own, ideally a 14K-18K ring and 10K ring and a 14K or higher necklace, just set them on the ground and in custom mode---sorry you did not say what model you are MDing with, if you have a custom mode---identify each item with your detector and save that bar, then add one or two bars on each side of the three or four you will have on the screen, eliminate all the other bars and go hit that park again. Since you are looking for gold and not necessarily going for depth, you might find this works for you. I've tried this at a ball field where nothing in old. I still get occasional trash, but have gotten used to the tones and have found several necklaces and 4 gold rings.

Good luck!

If you really want to find gold, you need to dig everything from foil up. Gold chains and thin rings will ID as foil. Other gold items can be anywhere from nickel up, but tends to ID on the lower end of the scale.

It will be frustrating at times, but will pay off in the long run.

Good luck!

Cruddy wheats like that will often ring up as zinc, maybe from the thick crud on them, don't know for sure. Hitting on gold takes the patience of Job and digging plenty of junky stuff. But when you least expect it....GOLD!! Find a soccer field and work the sidelines where the spectators sit and the players put their bags down to increase your odds or a sports practice field at a high school is also a good spot. If you can gain access to a public swimming pool, good chance of a goldie showing up there too, although you should probably only use a probe there if you ever want to get back in again!!

What mode are you hunting in then? Something that will pickup pulltabs. I just assumed that it was all metal.

Many cruddy or corroded coins will ring up as something else because the detectors are programmed on clean coins.

Keep swinging. Heck, everytime I go out I am looking for gold. It's just those darn :pulltab: keep getting in the way.

Ive never hit gold either. Everytime Im digging where gold was supossedly lost there s a zillion pulltabs, NEVER EVER GIVE UP!.

Finding gold is hard work. All that I've found was while hunting in coin mode. Couln't stand to dig every target, I would only move about 10 ft per hour.
