Went fishing and caught some silver fish.

Mick in Dubbo

Dirt fishing that is.
I finally have had the chance over the last few weeks to get some detecting in with some good results. I've been taking out the Explorer, X-Terra and GTI with the goal of scoring some pre-decimal coins as well as the usual modern stuff. Saturday last week, I finally found my first Florin plus my oldest coin for a while, a 1922 half penny. Also a few pennies and other half pennies.
The Saturday just gone, I was able to get out with the GTI after 11:30 for a couple of hours and landed my second florin and around $27. After an hour lunch break, I swapped over to the X-Terra and went to town. Picked up $70 and as my fingers were becoming quite tender from all the recoveries, I was starting to get selective on wich targets I dug. Getting a solid 24 on the 70, I almost didn't dig this target and on recovery, I thought that I picked up yet another 1c piece that had fooled me again. It was encrusted, but just as I was going to toss it in my finds bad, a glint of silver cuaght my eye. it was a Three pence! I haven't pulled one of these suckers up for a couple of years, so I was pretty happy.
Mercifully, the sun had set, and my now tender fingers were delighted. When I got home and counted my finds for the day, I discovered that I was only $3 short of finding a $100 for the day. Although I've only cracked the 100 once before, I"m still delighted with the out come. That brought the total to $295 for the last few weeks, and 13 pre-decimal coins, 6 of them found on the last Saturday so I'm pretty happy. Haven't done that well since January.
I put a dime and a zinc penny (found previously) in the picture to give you some idea of scale. I hope you like the pictures. The three pence is just above the dime.

Great hunting Mick! Nothing like a few pre-decimals to top off a good day. $100 in a day is magnificent from where I'm standing. Well done.:super:

Well done Mick, $100 in a day is amazing. Here in the West the best day I ever had was about $20 after a footy match and then they were mainly the $2 coin ( god I love them). What sort of sites do you hunt??:clapping:

Congrats on finding the 3 pence Mick. About the only thing I can say about finding a 100 bucks in one day is WOOOOOOOW, now that's making some good money while MD'ing,

Congrats on the great hunt Mick! You did fantastic in the $$ amount. I think the best I ever did was around $7=8 dollars. Aswesome job, Beale.

Man with all that digging it is a wonder you have fingers left. That is a real good days detecting.

Thanks Mark.
It sure is a bit of a thrill to pull out such a small silver coin. Ironically, our 50c pieces come in at 24 as well and they are very big. A similar size to the pennies on the left of the picture. They are about the size of your large cents.
You'll have to get your countrymen to start using those $1 coins more often, that you guys have. They are very sweet to find.
Beale and 7centsworth. If you were over here and you found the same numbers of coins that you do to get to $7 or $8, then it would probably be a similar amount. The average value of the coins I dig is between 55 to 60 cents.

Because of the number of pre-decimals that I found and the shorter time frame that I did it in, I'd consider it to be the best hunt that I've done to date.
I did find $118 on Jan 1 this year, but that was a 12 hour hunt and only one pre-decimal coin.
I was really stoked to find the Florin and three pence. I've been after a florin for a long time and to find 2 of them in a week, well, what can I say.
Mick Evans.

G'day Steve.
Yeah, those $2 coins are my favourites too. Their size really makes them easy to lose and to tell apart from screw caps. I love the $1 coins too, but they are a lot harder to figure from the screw caps.
I'm mostly a park hunter. However all the coins in the photo were found on the grounds of my sons' former school. You can hunt there, but what a lot of Aussies don't realise, is that you have to secure permission to hunt there, because if you are caught there, you can face some pretty serious charges. we had a major arson attack on one of the local school's a few weeks ago, which destroyed 5 class rooms. The school I was detecting at, was also broken into on one of the days I was detecting too.
I've found a couple of really hot locations in Sydney that have given up over $100 each. They are in public locations, but I'm not letting on as to where they are. I get to them once a year.

g'day mick, that's a really nice haul you've got there.my biggest haul so far is around the $33.00 dollar mark and that's not everyday.normally on an average of ten to twelve dollars, but it's fun.i bought a x terra 305 and my finds seem to be picking up.would have liked the seventy but couldn't afford it at the time.my wife and i travelled through dubbo once towing a caravan and she said what a quaint little town it is.her words not mine.we didn't dally at the time and kept going.then i was very new to this hobby with a second hand garrett ground hog that i didn't really know what i was doing with it or maybe i would have cleaned out dubbo before you came on the scene.:rofl:good luck mate.you are having happy hunting.bye for now, blowfly

It's nice when you finish detecting and the fingers are so sore it hurts to make a fist. WTG.

G'day Mick,

Your on fire mate !!!
really super finds...love those pre- decimal coins.
At this rate you can give up work. lol.
Adelaide has been quiet for me lately but Dubbo is cashed up by the looks of it.
The other day day I dug till I got sore hands also but it was a drink bottle screw cap day for me (over 2 dozen) ..dang it.
Keep up the great work Mick from the Golden West.

G'day Terra.
I wouldn't mind living in a city like Adelaide. (Went there twice around '85.) You have so many more options to hunt than I can.
If you have any problems with your detector, you don't have to worry about posting it in for repair.:poke::lol: It sure would cut down on the down time.
Mick Evans.

That's quite a haul Mick! I can't believe how many of those lovely $1 and $2 coins are dropped by our fellow countrymen. Nice lot of pre dec too, for me the perfect hunt is a good pile of cash and an assortment of pre-dec. And it seems the pre-dec out west have fared much better than those on the coast.

I set myself a challenge of finding $500 this month. Find $35 tomorrow and I'll have reached that target:thumbup:

$500 in a month is a great total werewolf. I only for a bit more than that in a year.I'm sure you'll get there. I'm aiming to crack the $1000 mark for the year. It'll be the first time I'll crack it. (Normally find around the $700 mark)
I'm interested in watching how the chap in Sydney (on the other forum) is going at trying to live off his finds for 30 days. He seems to be doing what I average when I get down there. About $11 an hour. I think he'll be glad when he's finished as it will take a bit of the shine off detecting when he's going out that often.:(
Mick Evans.

Wow what great day...I'd say you caught your limit that day!
