...my buddy with the property in the mountains called to see if I wanted to go back to the old cabin Saturday night after work and do a little digging on Sunday. YEP...I did!!
Once again he brought ribeyes but we didn't get to eat til about 10pm by the time we got up there and got settled in. They were still good!
Sunday morning I swung the machine for about an hour or so until I got tired of inhaling gnats. I talked to a local several years ago and she said that back in the 70's a group of detectorists had hit the area real hard one summer but I know they couldn't get it all. I brought my Fisher Coinstrike and Brian's Ace 250. The Ace is much better in trashy areas than the Coinstrike so I used it. I set it up in coin mode with a little over half sensitivity and notched out aluminum foil. I concentrated on the backyard of the cabin since much of the growth had been cleared away. Mostly I found rusted mason jar lids and odd pieces of iron and aluminum and a whatzit or two. The only decent find was the fork shown below. My camera battery died before I could get a shot of the complete fork but I did manage to get a couple of detail shots. Based on the amount of trash behind the old house I know there has to be an old coin or two in there somewhere, it's just going to be a matter of clearing out the trash. Also, thinking of the bottle finds of Greg and Mike from MI, I was hoping to locate a trash dump to dig through. I also looked for a likely spot for a clothes line but didn't see any indication of where one stood.
We also hiked up the old road but it is so overgrown that there is only a narrow trail to walk making swinging difficult. I did pick up a memorial penny and some pieces of old barbed wire. I hope to go back over Thanksgiving when my buddy will be back in town and much of the vegitation has died down. I would like to hunt the old school house again too.
Here's the fork. I gave it to my buddy because his mom likes to display stuff and it now resides in the kitchen of the pavillion, on an old wood display case. I don't think it is very old but when I get time I'll google it and try to pinpoint it's approximate age.

I had a great time though and sure wish Brian could have gone but it's just to risky because I don't have cell phone service there for emergencies.
Thanks for looking and I pray you all have a great day!!!!
