Went back to the yard where I found the 80 wheaties....

I was wondering if I could have had a 100+ wheatie DAY last week. Turns out yes, but I will have to settle for a 100+ wheat YARD instead. That still is a personal best.

It had been too dry for detecting lately, but we got a couple of inches last night. I tried hitting a couple of other areas but then went back to the yard I posted about a week or so ago. Not the funnest detecting weather. I was sweating like a $%$#@ in the sun, and in the shade 17 million mosquitoes would swarm off the grass every swing of the coil. Swatting bugs with dirty sweaty hands spread mud everywhere on me, had to drain the sweat out of my headphone cups every few minutes. Probably looked like some kind of swamp monster. Decided it would not be prudent to knock on any doors seeking permission to detect. They might try run me out of town with pitchforks.

Anyways, I gridded the yard in the opposite direction as the previous time, and there were still plenty of signals to dig. I wasn't counting as I was digging so ended up doing pretty much the whole yard, despite the heat/bugs.

This was the haul first time through the yard.

This was yesterday's second pass. I did get 26 wheats for grand total of 106. Also a merc and a couple of buffalo nickels. Probably could try different coils or go at a 45 degree grid and sneak out a few more, but not really worth it given the age of the finds. Don't think there is any possibility of getting to the 200 mark.

How big of a yard would you say that is anyway? Just an amazing quantity sitting to be found.

The heat and bugs were something this weekend though, wow!

That is a heck of a lot of wheaties and digging. Where they all in one area like left overs from a penny hunt or were they all over the yard. PJ

Nice job Chris! I know what you mean - is it worth it to go back for hours for a few more wheats? You know there's more there, so it would be a good "go to"
place especially at a different time of the year when conditions would net you more for your efforts.
I have a small park I'm working now and I'm at about 80 wheats plus over 20 IHs and about 14 silvers. Haven't finished my first pass over the whole park and it's
a good "go to" spot. 'Been hot as blazes for us New Englanders for a few days so the detecting efforts have slowed a bit.

I've had a couple of parks or school sites where I've done many more than a 100 wheats, probably over a 100 silver. Would like to find another place like that.

Where are you in CT? I've stayed in Mystic while working over by Westerly.
