Went back to the tree roots and pulled silver & IH cents

JimmyCT

Well-known member
Managed to get back to my tree root spot this morning (7-11-11) and pull two Indian Head cents (1907 & 1902 (both of which gave a nice clear repeatable 177) and my first silver dime (1942) It was a nice & clean 180 one way signal and I knew exactly what to do lol. I also found a diamond earring lol I can dream can't I? and some clad. I will most certainly be returning so Gunnar you don't have to worry about me picking my nose lol

All three coins were around 2-3" deep.

BEUTIFULL, the merc is in great shape and the Indians thats a good day in my book , and intresting the sove could pick out that small diamond earing It must be the tree is pushing up the ground the roots I plan on going back to the spot i was in as well what an amaze

Jim,
That is amazing that those coins were only 2 -3 inches deep in a heavily hunted area.
That reminds me of a couple of old coins I found in an area that had been hunted hard too and they were also only about 3 inches deep, yet they eluded other detectors for some reason.
I'll be glad when the weather cools down some so I can get out again with my Sovereign.
It's just too darn hot now to hunt at such a slow pace and dig deep holes for old coins.
It is nice to see others making some nice finds though.
Congradulations and keep it up,
Felix

You may very well be right in your theory of the roots pushing things up as most of the coins are shallow. Yes, the sovereign even sniffed out that *real* diamond earring lol (I wish) Gunnar, it registered an unsteady 177 on the meter. I have one more section under the trees to finish. Then I am going to the other side of the ballfield. The ballfield is fenced in (absolutely no metal detectors inside) so I am going around the outside of it. Yes, the mercury dime is in beautiful condition. Yes, it was a great day to find these coins. Hopefully, it is a sign of more things to come :)

Now get back to that spot you are talking about and make it bleed lol

Hi Felix,
I am shocked too that the coins that I am pulling up are not all that deep. Gunnar has a good point, the roots could be pushing up the coins. As all the shallow coins (for the most part) are right next to trees roots. Tomorrow suppose to be 93, rainy and quite humid so detecting tomorrow is out of the question. Yes, this park has been beaten pretty badly over the years but the Sovereign is continuing to still pull out some nice coins. Hope the weather cools for you so you can get out. - Jim
