I cant believe this! 3 rings, 1 ear ring, 76 pull tabs some clad and misc items......I took the advice from

Elton "Run sense as high as possible You may find a lot of old things Plus coins.Good Luck"
Thanks El Im running my sense at 10 with no problems with false signals and Im hunting right down to the water. If it goes off Its a dig baby. Its something every time. I love that 6 inch..I cant say I will ever put that other one back on..lol

Khouse " dig everything I bet there is a ton of jewlery still there"
I bet there is more Khouse..thanks friend

Boris "Hoss a lot of gold rings with big stones will come in at a very low number, like 8, 10 12."
That big mans ring with a diamond sang a 12..Thanks Boris..

Xwyokid--Keep digging, those rings will probably keep popping up. WTG.
That as some good motivation...It helped today I was tired.

Utmike---"Wet ground can also affect your detector's performance. It's amazing how a "hunted out" site will give up the goods after a good rain."
It rained last night and so I went back first thing today and the areas i already hunted were talking to me..

Way to go Hoss, I am glad you had such a great hunt, as far as the classring goes I firmly believe in making every effort to return an jewelry that anyone can identify because it will mean much more to them than it will ever mean to you. I have put a lot of ads in more than one paper trying to locate the owner of rings that I have found and I have retuned a Catholic rosary to the local church. Besides it will help the hobby and its rep.

Great Finds! You and your X-terra are doing well.

As far as class rings go, my preference is to return them anytime possible. Sometimes, finding and returning a memento leads to permission to hunt areas you could only dream of.

Having the opportunity to make someones day doesn't happen that often. It's a good thing when it does... Not to mention, our hobby (and our reputation as detectorists) can use all the advocates we can get!

Congrats!

The ring has very little resale value......The girl will have a liftime of memories that the ring is a milestone of high school..it's really only valuable to her

Sure it's a great find, take a picture note on the back where and when you found it..Keep the pic...maybe even contact the newspaper and get a write up...You might get more great sites out of that one tiny little ring.... You may even get a reward..but don't expect, or require it...Good Karma gives good rewards too.

Thats just my lone opinion Nothing more, nothing less.Only you can make the decision.

make the effort to return the ring to her. You'll find the smile on her face worth far more than any reward that may come your way. Over the past 37 years, I've probably returned a dozen or so rings to their rightful owners. With only one exception, ALL of them were tickled to death. Some gave me a few bucks and some didn't. The 83 year old man who lost his Masonic ring cried when I found it in his flower garden. The recently married couple "stayed married" after I found his band in the yard. The point is, do what is right and you'll feel good about what you've done. Regardless of whether or not you get a reward or even thanked. JMHO HH Randy

I agree with you guys..That was my first inclination..How happy she would be to get it back is worth more than any money to me..But for a moment there greed was rearing its ugly head..conviction and good friends prevail....I cant wait to see the look on her face..I will keep you posted on the return and how it goes..Now i am embarrassed for even thinking of wanting a reward..

But now if I find Captain Hooks treasure chest That will be a different story...........................cause hes dead lol..

I couldnt see any point in keeping something which you actually know belongs to someone else..... my two cents worth: get it back to her asap, but take a good close up pic first cause you did find it........ Your finds are good keep it up.....

I would not have kept it Moa.. i intended from the start to get it back to her.. i just was being honest about my Ignorant thinking:devil:I didnt know what Par was for us finders of treasureness...but like I said reward or not she is getting back..

I recently had the joy of being requested to look for a lost wedding ring. It was lost somewhere one an area of 3 playing fields. I found it after 3 hours and was able to return it to it's rightful owner. He was over the moon. I found out later that his very young daughter had recently had a major bout with Leukemia and won. The physical cost was high and a lot of townsfolk had rallied behind them to help with the burden of the cost of travelling down to Sydney regularly for treatment. When I found out about that, I felt very privileged to have been able to help outed finding his ring and no amount of money could have bought the feeling of satisfaction that I experienced. He did give me $20, but I would have been just as happy if he hadn't.

I understand, I didnt think you would.... just my thoughts. good on you for being honest though, there is always that feeling of ahhhhh I found it!!!!!. its thst gold fever, all of sudden you feel like a pirate!!!! I bet ill be in a similar position one day in the future. get back out there and find more. its raining here so I couldnt go detecting tonight.......

An awesome hunt and you sure worked hard for those goodies! I really think giving back classrings is kind of a duty we as detectors should try to do. I get more pleasure by returning a ring or personal item than keeping it especially a class ring that is not worth much. You could push the issue and try to get a newspaper article written about the return and show some good points about detecting to the community. People are trying to take our rights away everyday. HH, Mike

First of all congrats to you on finding so much good stuff! Second I know you made the right choice on that ring. I have never found a class ring. I would really like to just to have the chance to see what you will! Karma will reward you tenfold. Good hunting, Beale.

Yep return it i returned a simple dog tag last week and the guy was stoked, got a couple of free beers for the effort.

Great job! Asking for a reward after the fact is not cool. But accepting a reward offered after the fact is not. This could be cash or another place to hunt? If you run a story in the paper do not give out the location where the ring was found.

so i went back yesterday...it started raining.. I forgot my coat so I go to the local store, small town. I ask her about coats I get hooked up with a cordura rain suit for 45 dollars on sale..It was a steal..while Im in the store I get a call from my buddy who is hot on the trail for this owner of the ring.. i talk to him. The owner is listening. I get off the phone and she says "How nice, getting that ring back to her is sweet of you" We talk on about detecting. She happens to have an old dinosaur detector her friends gave her 2 days ago. I help her start it up and from what Ive read in The FAQ I was able to get her going after ground balance etc..She is grateful. We talk and she tells me she grew up there and now she is 55.I go to leave and she says. " Hey go down the road here and turn at that building go down in the woods a bit, There is a old hotel that use to be a whore house back when they where building the dam.. WOW..so i do and it scool.. I searched for a few minutes and the rain came in buckets.(Nothing) today Im going to take pics and do some searching before the grass gets to tall..The RING has already paid off..and the girl doesnt even have it back yet..Karma works in mysterious ways..

The gold rings I found were when the owner called me to find them and I did. Whether they give you a money reward or not still ask for permission to hunt is your reward as well.

Yes return the class ring of course but when you do, then at the same time ask for permission to hunt in her yard or her dad's yard. Or ask if they or a relative own any property that you could detect on, the older the better. They most probably will not say no then.

Take a photo of you, your metal detector, her, and the ring altogether in one picture for the newspaper. If it goes to an article in the newspaper about you returning the ring. You may want to put at the bottom of the article your contact phone number and ask if anyone out there can give you permission to hunt as well.

great Idea David thanks for that.........I got a good plan that will pay off better than cash ever thought about...I love this forum and you alls Ideas..

I found an '81 class ring and I'm trying to get it back the number of the guy (out of state) has a long distance block so I'm down to snail mail. it was the last year that they had a grad. class. It is the right thing to do. Everyone has been telling me that I'm crazy to return it,but it has a full name in it now just 3 initials. If you can return the ring more props to you!!!!!! H.H. Gary

I don't know who on this forum would say that you are crazy to return it, I believe that at least 90% of us would do the same thing. I am glad you are doing the right thing, lost class rings will mean a lot more to the people that lost them than they will to us THrs.
