Went back to a spot and found something out

I went back to a spot where I found an 1847 large cent. I was working around the tree line and started to walk a little into the woods and came upon a fence about 60 feet, on the other side is a grave yard. I put the Fisher down and stared looking at the headstones. Most of the ones I could read were around mid 1800s,( date died). The outhouse where I found the large cent is about 100 yards from the graveyard and not on the graveyard. I hope I didn

Ya know I've come across the same sort of delema. I know where theres a old cemetary out in the woods,About 20 or 30 headstones. The cemetary is also fenced in. You can see old fence posts and fence. In the front of the cemetary there is a spot as wide as the place and about 40 feet deep. Am I making this up or is this a spot the family and friends would stay and comfort each other, travel being a lot harder and slower back then. Mabey have a meal there? Or is it just unused cemetary land? I have always wanted to go there and detect around the entrance (outside of fence) and where there use to be an old building off to the side of it.That I will do, but as far as the part inside (the open grassie part) I don't think I better!

makes me sick to see threads where detectorists brag about what they find in cemeteries. Dunno, maybe it's how I was raised, but you don't dig in a cemetery or burial ground if you know that it is one. Period.

Do remember paths leading to the cemetary, parking areas( even if they parked a horse and buggie) are all outside the cemetary so is a judgement call..Years ago and hard to believe many families gathered in areas outside of the cemetary for meeting, picnics and the like so could produce old coins.Again areas outside the cemetary may produce old coins and again is a personal decision...Legal of course but would be frowned upon by the average detectorist..
