Went back out into the woods a couple days ago....

To a little spot I found a few weeks ago that had some Chantarelle mushrooms popping up. Then, we went dry, no rain, for 2 weeks. Now that it's rained a lot since then, they're starting to pop again. I may have to go and pick some, as they taste pretty good, that is, if the deer don't get them first.

I've never found one, but then, I've never gone looking, either. Supposedly, the park where I found the Chantarelles will also produce Morels. Only problem is, the park is over a square mile in size, with some wooded patches, and some grassy areas. It's a real mix. I'll have to walk the woods some this April, if it doesn't interfere with my TH'ing.

Mind you Cream of Chantrelle soup will fix you up after a cold day of working in the rain better than anything. I used to live on Vancouver Island where the Chantrelles grew like weeds, I sure do miss them!

We get Morels at work. Here's a shot of the ones we got this Spring. That's one of my co-worker's hands holding a Morel, for scale. They're on a full-size sheet pan, which is pretty darn big. One of those Morels is about 8" tall!
