Went and retrieved my X-Terra today.

After being without it for the last 6 weeks, I decided it was time to collect it back from my friend today. He had borrowed it to look for an old cache of coins that was buried somewhere under his fathers home. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to locate it.
After retrieving it, I drove into the town that he lives near and hunted in one of the parks there for several hours. I must be a little rusty, as the coin recoveries were a little more difficult than usual. The day ended well with a tally of $28.30 for the day, as well as my first pre decimal coin for about 9 months. It is a 1948 half penny. The $28 only cover about two thirds of the fuel though, but at least it was fun.
After getting home, I've swapped the standard coil for the 10.5in round DD coil. I bought an Explorer nut and bolt set to put it on with, and although it fits through the coil, it has too large a diameter for the lower rod. I suppose I could have enlarge the hole, but decided against it. I used the regular one instead.

From the sight of that I bet your happy to have the 70 back in your hands. Keep an eye out for the 1953 half penny, I have a nice one I found about 2 weeks ago.
Here is a link on one site. http://www.jaggards.com.au/shop/products.asp?categoryid=12
Good luck with your future finds!
Cheers!

Thanks nugget.
Yeah, the 30 did pretty good. I think that I'm going to have to get more practice on it though, as had to walk away from a number of good signals, as I couldn't locate them. Probably could have ended up with around $40 if I could locate them properly. I was hunting on a flea market site in Mudgee. I notice you swing the Ace as well. It's a beaut little machine. That elliptical coil is a real plus.Wouldn't mind having one for the X-Terra.That would be awesome.
I just looked at that site and groaned. I didn't think that it was worth anything, so treated it roughly. It would have been worth $15 in top condition. i figured that it would have been only worth a buck or 2, it is now. Thanks for the link on the site.
IT would be nice to have the 70, but I only own the 30, which seems to hold it's own with the 70 anyway.

you own the 30, thats right I forgot mate! I must admit I sometimes have trouble with certain targets depending on the coil I use, its pretty frustrating at times. Yea its a pitty you cant use the elliptical shes a sweet coil on small gold. Even though the 30 is a top machine for the price I think you would enjoy the versatility of the 50 and 70 for coil choices and options. Every time I dig an old coin these days (which isn't very often lately) I treat it like a new born, you just never know its worth these days, especially if someone out their really wants it for there collection. Anyways Mick take it easy, catch ya soon.
P.S The Ace 250 is a great little machine, got mine off ebay for $295 postage included.
Cheers!

I meant to actually meant to delete the the bottom comment before posting, as I re framed the comment more subtly higher up in the post. Sorry about that, I wasn't trying to make a big deal about it.
Did you import your Ace from the States? It was a tonne cheaper than I paid. I've spent over $800 optioning mine up, an even $500 just for the stock detector!
I got to play with the 70 down in the Detecting shop in Sydney at Christmas, but was quite concerned about it's ability to discriminate. I used a $2 coin and waived it over the coil a number of times. I was a bit surprised at how many different numbers that it came in at. While flat, it was a 30, but as soon as I rotated it, it showed up from between 28 to 34! On the 30, it comes in at 28 or 32. After seeing that, I concluded that that it wouldn't fair any better than the 30 at IDing coins! What is your experience at that? Some of the other features look alright though.
Mick Evans.

Firstly I received the Ace from bendigo gold in Vic second hand off ebay and was thrilled to have only paid a small amount for it. Secondly in regards to the $2 coin ID, on some occasions especially in wet soil I do get different readings at times yes. I have dug up $1 coins on a reading of 34 but very rarely does this happen depending on the depth. Also I have noticed this when my batteries are very low in power. I have also recently added 20c and 50c (20 and 22) to my coin pattern and have been digging ALOT of silver lately which is new to me LOL! I have always hunted the gold but the silver is starting to add up very nicely . You know occasionally the 70 is fooled by a foreign object (what machine isn't) but shes on the money most of the time. What I really want is to find a nice old virgin site will LOTS of old coins :clapping: but I'm just happy to get the occasional one for now. Oh yea I have stopped using 99 tones and am now using 4 tones which I like better.
Cheers!

I got the Ace 250 from clevangers off the net new for right at 200 then picked up the 4" sniper coil and lower stem for appx. $80.00 They have some pretty good packet deals. Have had a lot of fun with the Ace.
