the pinpoint switch on the Excel started to get balky, then balkier(those who are married will understand) <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=""> and then finally she crossed the county line never to be heard from again. So I thought OK, maybe a software problem, turn machine off and waited a minute, back on and no change. So let's do a cold reboot, removed both batteries for about a minute and turned back on, no change. Won't repeat what I said next, and it wasn't "Oh Sugar". Took machine home and took her apart, and the pinpoint switch is bad, so I fired off an e-mail to Fisher to see what a replacement switch panel will cost. If it is high cost, then I will probably put a Tejon style trigger/toggle switch on her. For those who aren't familiar with it, spring loaded, long stemmed SPDTCO. In this instance I would wire her for PP pull to rear, mode change flick to the front.
Now for those of you who have been paying attention, I bought this machine used from Don Strutman DIV4GOLD. And when it arrived it was working fine, so this is not intended in any way to say Don sold me a bum machine. When you buy used you take your chances, and for a membrane switch to go bad is not unusual.
And now sports fans the results of today's effort, a 1903 IH and 1893 Vnick both in pretty rough shape. Also found a couple of whats-its. One looks like a pickle tong with some gilding still left. The other is a piece of lead with rusted steel wire in it, and what looks like rope marks to lash it to something. Also found a couple bucks in clad.
