Well The Verdict Is Out - At Least For Me

OK, I spent my entire summer with an Explorer SE with pro-coil and 6x8 SEF coil. I found some good stuff including an 18K gold wedding band. But I figured I might be missing some jewelry though since my Explorer wouldn't even touch half my wife's jewelry box contents. Even rubbing the item directly on the coil produced no results. So I sold the Explorer and bought a used Gold Bug Pro DP off Richards Backwoods Detectors.

Air testing the GBP DP produced more positive results on 3mm 14k gold rope chains which I can detect at 5". The Explorer will not even flinch on these chains. I used the GBP DP today to re-hunt four volleyball courts that have been pounded by me with my explorer and everyone else in the area for that matter. One person has an E-Trac and the other an older Quattro. I found at least two dozen clad coins mostly pennies and dimes. However I did find 6 nickels. All of the coins were fairly deep and had some iron in the same hole or in close proximity; mostly hair pins. I know these are not fresh drops either. I had my disc set at 40. The gold rope chains will be picked up at just above 40. So I have surmised that the Minelabs are nulling over some good targets and I will need to go back over every place I have hunted this summer. No gold yet with the GBP but I know if it is there the GBP will find it.

I have owned a Teknetics G2 which I wish I had never parted with so I was immediately familiar with the GBP.

the goldbug pro with the nel sharp shooter rocks and I use it as my go to detector for silver copper coins and small jewelry and the xp deus for a back up I like the tones on the gold bug pro better then the deus but the deus has its place and the e track as well
They are all great detectors but the goldbug pro is my baby good luck and happy hunting
