Well, the Quattro arrived today and my first question is, what the HELL is with this flute music..........

that this thing makes? It reminds me of a High school band practice. Anyway to change the tones or are you pretty much stuck with the Flute music? I guess it could be worse, it could have been a trumpet.

Best advice is to test the machine with a variety of good targets and bad targets, laid out on a blanket where you can see them and get used to the tones, numbers, and pinpointing. That will pay big dividends.

The machine is very capable. Like the Explorer, it IS a "wind instrument", but you will come to love the flute sounds. Or hate them. I swear the Explorer II was playing "Dixie" the other day when I dug up that Standing Liberty quarter. One time it played "Mary Had A Little Lamb" for me too. I don't care what music it plays, as long as it gets the goods. Although if it starts playing opera I will have to consider going back to using the CZ-70 a little more!

Gi'day Mike,
When I read your post, I have to admit I burst out laughing. You see, I thought the same thing when I first got my quattro. The quattro's talking to you! If you're in your house and turned it on, make sure it isn't picking up any interferrence from nearby metal ojects around or in the furniture or in the floor. I like to place my machine over the arm with the coil hanging outside of my sofa, turn it on, usually to test different items. That way the coil hangs in mid air away from anything metallic. When you chose a setting that you'd like to try out, outside, eg. coin/jelewry, set the sensitivity, the trash (low for low trash, high for high concentration of trash) setting, then press the noise cancel button, but don't move your coil while it's doing this. Make sure your coil is on the ground. This will ensure a 'running stability' of your machine to its 'surrounds'. I'm not very techincal here, but these suggestions should help you somewhat.

when I first turned it on. I will try your suggestions. I'm currently reading the Andy Sabisch book on the Quattro now. I haven't gotten to the musical instrument part yet hahahahahahahaha!

I was use to the White's DFX tones. I like the quattro tones better - don't seem as harsh. But I haven't been able to get it to play any songs for me!

hahahahahahaha. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the musical notes when you first start up the machine, those are neat, but it's the tones that the Quattro makes when it comes across a target, well, I can't really say that, I've only tried it out in the house. I'm passin targets by the coil checking to see what it reads and what tone it gives for each target while I'm reading that Andy Sabisch book on the Quattro. I'm about half way through it now. (slow reader don't you know)!

Time for a med check, Mike.

....some thing to add from the previous post is use your probe to test things and do programming in the house. First turn the sense all the way up switch you detector to probe, hold the probe up in the air away from every thing then hit the noise cancel button. Please read in the explorer forum how to noise cancel. You guys with Quattros will learn alot more from the Explorer users. This site keeps you away from learning correctly and at a much slower pace. Good Luck with the Quattros but your going to miss important bells and whistles down the road. DB Mich

another Quattro coming too. I traded on this one but I'll probably use it a little before I put it up for sale... Of all the Minelabs, I like the Quattro the best and it didn't take long to get use to what it's was trying to tell me...work the coil a little slower than normal and I think you'll see some great finds..Best to you on your new detecting venture, RichardnTn
