Well Now I Did It.

Well i just started detecting about 2 months ago. I started with a Bounty Hunter Discovery 2200 but decided i wanted something different. Was thinking i might like a Tesoro but ended up ordering a New Garrett Ace 250 Deluxe Sports Package which arrived yesterday. In the mean time i had also placed a bid on a Fisher 1212 on e-bay and won it too. So then i had 3 detectors, but still not exactly what i was thinking i wanted. Then last night a i made a guy an offer on his Tesoro Compadre. He bought it new and used it about 20 min. before he figured out he didn't really want it. So it is basically new, still has the warranty card and all, and i got it for $115. Not a Great deal i guess, but a Good deal. I managed to sell the Discovery, and now i really need to sell the Ace 250, and maybe the Fisher as well. The Ace is probably a real good machine from all i have read but it has a small display screen and my old eyes just can't see the screen without reading glasses on and i can't hunt with them on so somebody can get a Real Good deal on a brand new Ace 250. The Deluxe Sports Pack includes the standard Ace 250 and also a 9x12" coil, rain cover, carry bag, headphones, and "Finding Lost Treasures" field guide. So, what are the views on the Compadre? Is it all it is cracked up to be as far as finding small Gold Jewelry and coins? Will it work at the ocean beach?

Rebel,my opinion the Compadra is a good unit, but is an entry level model like the rest of the detectors you bought.I would sell off these detectors except one and cash in,and regroup. At least you will get an idea how well each detector will perform. The newer the detector the more difficult to recoup your investment..Been there and done that.Good Luck Ron

Thanks. I know they are all considered "Entry Level" units, but they can also be used by more experienced users. I have heard a lot about how good the Compadre is at finding small gold jewelry and coins. Since that is my main objective i figure it will do fine for me. At least for now. I have the Ace 250 up for sale already.

I hunted whith a compadre for a summer and its a great machine ,the ED 180 will not miss anything in the ground and the small coil will trash pick very well , get you next to fences and metal poles NOW AS FAR AS DEPTH it will hit coins to 4" so it is shalow but for a park situation or school really a great machine i found an silver 1936 quarter whith mine but it was on a construction site whear the dirt was tilled if you really want a good deep machine whith some better capabilitys i would recomend a fisher F4 ,,f75 or t-2 personaly i like my musketeer but if i was going to a school i would grab the compadre as i dont want to dig deep holes anyway the compadre is so strong on gold thats one thing that distingushes it from other detectors you will not miss a gold ring now my musketeer is weak on gold rings but the 12 khz of the compadre is hot on gold

Rebel,

Go out and use the Compadre. Put the disrimination right above iron and dig everything that sounds good. You will get lots of foil and tabs, but that is the only way to get the gold. Once you have lots of hours hunting, then think about getting a used mid-range to high range unit. By that time, you will know whether the hobby has hooked you, or if its really not for you.

I have a feeling the hobby is going to hook you. At that point, check out the classifieds. Lots of great detectors up for sale by lots of great people.
