...seems it's worth more like $4000!
We had it in to a jeweler today for sizing. My wife has been wearing it on another finger but I'm now getting her a companion band to go with it, with 5 diamonds that match the 4 smaller diamonds that flank the half carat center stone on the found ring. The two rings will be tacked together to make it into a "wedding set" type deal. And that's where a big chunk of the money from the gold I cashed in at the refinery recently is going...I decided on that in lieu of the gold coin I was going to buy. This will be a much better reinvestment of the capital.
Anyway, the jeweler was looking at it and asked if I had it appraised. I told her another jeweler had given me a "ballpark" figure of $2000 to $2400. She thinks he was hedging his bets in case I wanted to sell it. She showed me a 1/2 carat solitaire from their case that was only the one stone, same cut as the .52 carat in my ring but a little smaller, cloudier, and not as flawless. The price tag was $3499. She says the one I found is at least $4000. Soon to be more like $5000 with the add-on ring. I'm doing that for our anniversary coming up next month.
So needless to say, my wife is "all about the detecting" right about now. And my find of the summer just doubled in value.
Here's a re-post of the pic for those who missed it...
